Actually, they're supposed to be awesome. I was really bummed that they sold out before I could buy one. It eliminates your exposure to all of the nasty chemicals in tampons and pads, and everyone I know that's tried it has raved about how great they are.
lol. I totally just ordered one, but now I'm scared. I spend a small fortune on tampons every month though, not to mention this thing says it doesn't leak. I would love not to have to wear a pad and a tampon.

I just bought it from amazon. Sadly, not prime eligible.

I love my Diva Cup. Kia, glad you finally got one! I bought mine off of Amazon for like $20 bucks, I think.
:-)
I'm a little scared about it holding enough (and about emptying it without making a huge mess) but I'm willing to give anything a shot at this point. It seems like I buy a huge box of tampons every other day!

I'm just grossed out by having to empty and clean it. And I feel like it wouldn't stay in as well. Or what if it got stuck? So much to think about....
I don't want to TMI you, but I'm thinking this will be a *lot* less messy for me. That is, if it works and doesn't leak. Plus, 12 hours? Sign me up! I'm tired of having to get up in the middle of the night to change my tampon.

I just showed this to my friend. She's used them and says there's a pretty steep learning curve when it comes to taking them out and not getting stuff all over yourself. I'm thinking it's probably best to perfect the technique at home.

Touch?. I can now understand how this would be a good thing. I still don't think I could do it but I have also only had like 1 or 2 periods in 3 years and they aren't that heavy.

You may be surprised how little you need it to hold after you've been chemical-free for awhile. There is some evidence that using disposable items actually increases your flow over time. It was definitely true for myself and most other mamas I know who switch to cloth and cups. Crazy, huh?
Joyco, you are about to welcome me to the TMI club:
I actually was using one for a while, but had to stop because it caused an abnormal pap/cervicitis. I know you can't be 100% sure that's what caused it, but after years of having normal paps, I started using it and it went abnormal. I imagine its highly individual.
My OB recommended I use tampons instead going forward - my cervix apparently does not like sitting in .. um.. fluid. The upside to tampons is that it pulls moisture away from it. I guess we'll find out when I go to my followup in four months or so. :P

I'm all for less waste and better products for our health but I'm always curious how you go about cleaning that thing when you're out in public? Do you have to rinse it off before you put it back in? I seriously have a bladder the size of a pea so I don't think I'd even want to try and mess around with a diva cup with as often as I have to go to the bathroom.

It doesn't have anything to do with how often you have to pee, it's up there like a tampon. You only have to dump it every 12 hours so I wouldn't have an issue scheduling it for when I'm home, but the FAQs say it's ok to just reinsert it if you're in a public bathroom and can't properly wash it.
From their website, "Model 2: For women over 30 years old and/or for women who have delivered vaginally or by caesarean section."
OMG, this is making me die laughing. "I'll take two of the old lady saggy vag version, please."
Well I want to know why I need the Model 2. I had a caesarean, she never really entered the birth canal. I think things are pretty close to how they were pre-baby, so why do I need the saggy vag version?
I've had mine for about 6 months and I absolutely love it. So much easier and everything just feels much more...uh...clean. It saves us money, no more running to the store if I run out of supplies, less waste, no remembering to carry supplies in my purse, less trips to the restroom to change things out....just so much easier. There was a learning curve but now I love it way more than I should a feminine product. It was much more comfortable after cutting the stem of it off. And Mar, that is really interesting about flow bc I was just thinking mine had been *much* lighter the last few months.

It's apparently not b/c our vag is saggy but b/c our hips are fat.
We recommend Model 2 if you are 30 or over 30 years old, because as we age, our hips naturally widen and the vaginal muscles lose elasticity. Because the vaginal muscles hold The DivaCup in place, it is important to use Model 2 if you are over 30, even if you have not had childbirth.

There is definitely a learning curve that goes along with it. I would wear a pantyliner with it, just in case.

Ohhh, your Google-fu is stronger than mine. Thanks!
I finally bit the bullet and ordered one. Amazon's 1-click ordering is dangerous.
I was interested in it, but can't find out what material it's made of. It would suck to have latex/rubber which I'm allergic to and find out the hard way. like with condoms...

From their website:
The DivaCup is made of a high quality, soft healthcare grade silicone that starts as a liquid. Then the molecules are bound together (or vulcanized) with very high heat to form a solid stable piece of silicone (similar to the feel of soft rubber). The DivaCup is cured after production in an oven at a very high temperature to make sure all the molecules are bound and ?chain linked? together. Since the end product is a solid material yet flexible and durable, there is no possibility for anything to leak into the body (no leaching).
This form of silicone is odorless, latex-free, plastic-free and BPA-free. It has been used safely in healthcare applications for over 50 years. Our silicone is approved for use in The DivaCup as feminine hygiene protection by the FDA and Health Canada.

Why are people so grossed out by their own bodily fluids?? It's YOURS. You made it. Not like you're going to get Hepatitis from touching your own blood. But I guess I'm not the best person to judge what is normal with respect to blood and guts.

I'm with you. No judging of those who love it, but I'll take my chemical-filled tampon, tyvm.

I haven't tried the diva cup. I don't have any intention to, but those I know who use it seem to really like it a lot.
I have a Mirena and thus zero period (or the tiniest bit of spotting that a panty liner is more than enough.)
Go Mirena!

cool, I might try one after AF comes back. It didn't use to be on their website or packaging.
I'm latex-allergic and have had one for a couple years, maybe 4? I'm pretty sure only the Keeper is made from latex.
