GTKY: Your husbands/Significant others

I really enjoyed the GTKY: Furbabies post last week so I thought I'd change it up a bit. I enjoy getting to know everyone outside of their fertility issues. So this post is dedicated to our other halves. Tell us a little about your husband/significant other! My husband's name is Lee and he is the manager of an oilfield company. He is hardworking, optimistic and hilarious. We met 5 years ago and as cliche' as it sounds, he is my bestfriend. He also happens to be my boss as I do payroll for him. He has been my rock through all of our fertility struggles. He is a huge hunter/fisherman and loves staying active. I love him so much and cannot wait to see him as a father.

Re: GTKY: Your husbands/Significant others

  • I love this idea!

My DH is Tyler.  We met in 8th grade and started dating shortly thereafter, and we'll be celebrating 12 years as a couple in May.  Tyler works as a insurance claims adjuster for worker's comp, covering claims in TX and OK (including many oilfield claims!).  He is a Godly husband and works really hard to make sure we have everything we need.  He loves running, music, and our dogs, and his new haircut (see siggy) was the talk of his office yesterday - I think it's because he has a very nicely-shaped head. Stick out tongue

  • What an awesome idea!! DH is Brian he is 30 and a Network Engineer. We met when I was 18 and he was 23 and I did NOT like him :) We re-connected 3 years later and it has been happily ever after since Big Smile He is incredibly supportive through IF and I can not wait to see him as a father. He is so wonderful with my nephew and our furbaby!!

  • My husband's name is Chris..he is 33 and a minister. He is currently a youth pastor at our church and asst. chaplain for the Oakland Raiders..he's 6'1, half puerto rican, half colombian with the longest eyelashes :) Such a cutie...we met at church and love to salsa, watch football/baseball games and serve at our church. He loves God and is a great guy...he's not the most romantic fella but he has his ways of making that up LOL....he loves gummy coke bottles, fig newtons and popcorn and hates when my makeup gets on our bathroom sink (darn bare escentuals mess!) LOL....he had such faith that even through IF we would get pregnant on our own and Praise God we did in May, sadly though I miscarried just a few days shy of 12 wks...he was so supportive, strong and sweet yet he afforded me the trust to see him at his lowest point.....I value his honesty and raw emotion. So glad he didnt put a wall up and our marriage grew stronger since our loss....I just love the guy :D

(note the eye lashes in this pic) :D

  • I love this idea too :)

My husband's name is Kenyon.  He is a CPO in the Navy, and did 10 years of active duty.  This is his 4th year of reserves.  In the civilian world, he works as an engineer developing and machining sensors that detect and monitor particulate matter in the air as well as in oil.  The sensors can be found in all sorts of things like airplanes, wind turbines and public transportation buses.   He's just finishing up his masters degree is mechanical engineering.

He loves video games, working on his race car that is currently taking up my spot in the garage, and  doing all sorts of 'manly' things like fixing and building.

He is the leader of our house and the master of my heart :)

Anywho, he is a very loyal and giving person! He will do ANYTHING for the people he loves. We met on a blind date in high school and have been together ever since (nearly 14 years)!  He loves to do anything technical, and plays a lot of video games

SAME here!  Right now we are lucky enough to have seperate bathrooms which is *Amazing* but when we move in a few months we will be sharing... uh-oh...! :)

we had  "his and hers" sinks in our first place......that was still a battle...in the place we are in now "his" bathroom is the one  in our master bedroom and "mine" is the one for the house like the guest bathroom.............we have everything totally separate!! hahaha..our bathrooms, closets, checking accounts....so funny but it works for us! although................I still end up the lucky one who gets to clean BOTH bathrooms...hahahaha

  • Great idea! My husband's name is Simon. He is an infantry officer in the U.S. Army, which naturally keeps him very busy. We met in college and were married shortly after graduating and his commissioning into the Army. He's hard working and has an amazing sense of humor, something that attracted me to him in the first place. He constantly puts others first, despite his own wants and needs and is an amazing father to our fur babies and will certainly continue with our real babies in the future.

  • My DH is Travis. He's a milk truck driver. He is one of the hardest working people I have ever met in my life. Sometimes he's stubborn as the day is long but he's really easy going, hilarious and kind hearted. He is super close with his mom, dad and sister. He's my best friend, if it weren't for him I definitely wouldn't be the same person I am today. He loves to hunt, fish, ride our motorcycle and drive his Dodge Ram (he's kind of obsessed). I cannot wait to see him as a Dad. He's already the best uncle I have ever seen.

  • DH and I met 7 years ago and started dating the day after we 1st met each other.  We never had the weird "boyfriend/girlfriend" talk, we both just assumed we were dating and never had to wonder what was going on.

DH started working as a police officer for the county in the parks.  He now works as a police officer in a town.  He played soccer in college and still plays on rec. leagues.

He is my silver lining (even when I want someone to be grumpy with me).  He sees the good in everything.

  • Oh how fun!

DH and I actually met on MySpace.  Turns out we went to the same college and attended a few of the same years, but didn't know each other while there.  I totally thought he was a "meat-head" at first (he played college football), but after our first conversation, that couldn't be further from the truth.  At the time he was a viral-biologist.  Now he's a consultant working on program management.

We've been together for almost 4 years and married for a year and a half.  While not romantic, he is the sweetest person I know.  I always thought he would be an awesome dad, but seeing him as an uncle confirmed it!  He is in love with our nephew (my brother's son) and my nephew adores him.  I can't wait to make him a daddy!!

  • My DH is Benjamin, and he's an officer in the Air Force. I've known him since I was four years old. His dad and my dad were best friends in high school, so we grew up together. During my freshman year of college (he was a senior going to school in Florida, while I was in Pennsylvania), he finally told me that he had had a crush on me for years and wanted to date me. I resisted for about two months before agreeing to "only one date!" over Christmas break. Of course, we fell in love. We spent the next four years in a long-distance relationship (he was in Florida, then California, then Montana; I was in Pennsylvania and England) and got engaged right after I graduated from college. We were married 16 months later.

He's a good balance to me. He's very realistic yet optimistic, which is helpful when I'm being neurotic and high-strung. He's extremely supportive and we have a very deep connection. We often joke, "It's a good thing we found each other, because who else would want us?" I feel very blessed to have built such a beautiful life with a wonderful man, and I can't wait to bring a child into our family.

  • My Dh is Jeff, he just turned 40.  He studied history and has a law degree from DePaul so he kicks my butt nightly as we watch Jeopardy DVR'd during dinner every.single.night.  He is a HUGE Chicago sports fan so a lot of our time is spent watching White Sox Baseball, Bulls Basketball, Bears football & (my fav) Blackhawks Hockey.  He is hands down, the funniest man I have ever met (how he won my heart) and we met through my best friend.  I was living in Milwaukee visiting her down here in my hometown in the Chicago suburbs and she said she'd met the man I was going to marry.  She said "he's really smart and sarcastic".  Her husband and my husband's families are best friends.  So now, we spend tons of holidays & get togethers together!  He volunteers for our comminity's annual festival and will be President of it for another year (this is his fourth year as Pres.).  He's the most out going people person I know for someone who claims to not like people.  Our 150 wedding was 75% his friends and family LOL.  And deep down, he is a romantic...example:  On Sunday he knew I'd be home half an hour after he left home.  He left Tim McGraw's "More than a woman" playing on repeat on our stereo with a note saying "Thinking of you.  You're my best friend.  I love you!"  Obviously I can go on and on about him!!!  I love him more than I ever thought possible!

  • Love this idea.  My DH is Shane.  My mom and her siblings went to school with his dad and siblings.  My grandmother and his grandmother were salon buddies every week for many many years.  When he was adopted, my grandma knew about every step of the way.  When he came from Korea, my uncle was the judge who performed his naturalization. We grew up in the same town, but never met.  He delivered the paper to my grandparents.  We used to go on family vacations at the same lake each summer, never met there. His aunt worked with both of my parents.  As adults, he coached swimmers at the same rec center I coached our roller derby league for several months.  I met his assistant coach and his swimmers, but not him.  We ended up meeting online!  What a crazy world.  He is amazing, hilarious, and my best friend.  He is a coach and is great with his swim kids.  He will make an amazing father someday.

We met at a friends BBQ and I couldn't get over how funny he was! He's in the Navy, served 5 years active duty and has been a reservest for almost 3 years. He works as an electronics technician now, but currently is looking forward to going into the Coast Guard. I'm so proud of him for everything he does. He is the most amazing man I've ever known and is truly my best friend. He makes me laugh when it feels like nothing else can. We've had a lot of rough in our relationship/marriage and he's always been my rock when it felt like my world was going to crumble around me. He's the most amazing Daddy to our five furry babies, and I can't wait to see him as a Daddy to a two legged baby!

  • This is fun! My DH is Mike. He's 29 next month and is already an amazing father to his almost 8 year old daughter, from previous relationship. Watching him with her melts my heart. We have been together 6 years, married 6 months. He is a basement waterproofer, and works really hard. He is trying to start his own company so he doesn't have to do it forever.

He grew up in Nova Scotia, on Cape Breton Island, and is very laid back and easy going. He loves his truck and his video games, and is realistic about IF which is amazing because I'm the emotional mess and he tries his best to keep me calm and relaxed. His dad died from cancer when he was 15 and the night before our wedding his sister gave him a pocket watch with a picture of his father in it and his mom, sister, me and him all cried. That's the only time I've seen him emotional so far, otherwise he is my rock and I love him dearly for it.

  • My DH is Scott; we meet 3 years ago on match.com.  This is a second marriage for both of us, but neither of us has children from our previous relationships.  He is a salesman, which means he travels on average of 1 week per month (sometimes more, sometimes less).  He is a big time gamer, we have a PS3, a Xbox 360 w/ kinect, and a Wii in our home.  He also enjoys watching pretty much any sport known to man (thank goodness for his "man cave"), movies and we both enjoying traveling as much as possible.  He is the most kind, gentle, honest, loving man I know and I thank god everyday for bringing him into my life.

  • Ooh this has been fun!

My husband and I met while we were in college. He was there for pharmacy school, which is a 6 year program. He was in his "P3" year as they call it. We met at his fraternity, which even though it is only for pharmacy majors, it is a social frat. I was a freshman. Because of his program, we graduated together, and moved out to Michigan for his job.

He is actually a nuclear pharmacist, and so he makes some of the things that are put into your body when you go to take xrays and the like. He loves it, but sadly, about 3 months into his job (he didn't even have his certification yet, so he wasn't allowed to work by himself) his boss/the only other pharmacist was killed in a car accident. For the past year, my husband has had to work every single day, and works long 12 hour shifts. 1am-2pm, and on top of that, is on call when he is not at work. He also has to work 1am-4am every holiday and weekend.

They did hire another manager/pharmacist, but he has never worked with nuclear pharmacy stuff, and is a nit-wit. The company is not happy with him at the moment, as he has been trained since the summer, and still can not do anything- making my husband the technicians do everything for him.

Even with all this, my husband is a very laid-back guy, and doesn't let things bother him. He likes his work, so he doesn't let the hours get to him. He just makes sure to unwind whenever he can by reading or playing euchre with his coworkers.

My husband has a fun family background. His father, whom he hasn't talked to in YEARS used to work for the government in secret missions. He was a part of the C.I.A. and as a result, his family lived in India and Singapore when my DH was about 5 years old. His passport from back then even says the then-5 year old boy was member of the government and is not to be questioned or delayed while traveling. It's pretty nifty!

Him and I fell for each other shortly after we met. He is the kindest, most caring man I know and he treats me better than anyone ever has in my life. He has MFI and takes it hard, but along with that and his other health issues, he keeps himself together. He is stronger then I will ever be. He is really into football and NASCAR (not something we share, lol) but he is man enough to sit and watch Project Runway with me. :-) He is going to be an amazing daddy and I cannot wait to make him one!

  • My DHs name is Brian.  We met 8 years ago when we started working together in an elementary school (he's a phys. ed. teacher and I'm a math teacher).  We were good friends for about 3 years (we were both in other relationships) before we started dating. He is a huge baseball fan and spends the majority of his free time playing softball. He is my best friend and I can't picture ever having to go through this with anyone else.  He makes me laugh when I want to cry and holds my hand through my appointments.  Based on how he interacts with our students, our friends' kids, and our fur baby, I know that he is going to be an amazing daddy!

  • My husband is Dan, but I callI him "Buddy." I'm "Lil Bud" at home :) We've been together seriously since July 2008, engaged January 2009, married that October. We met at a baby shower. We look like an odd pair, according to some people. He's 6'5", about 300# and heavily tattooed with gaged ears. He looks every bit the scary biker, but he's the sweetest and most sincere guy you'll ever meet. He's incredibly caring and loyal. I've often said it feels as though he walks around looking for ways to make my life easier. He has a great sense of humor and an admirable work ethic. He loves our pups and dotes on them constantly. He's simply an amazing man.

ETA: He's a journeyman plumber for a small family-owned company. He's also a jack-of-all trades as he can do anything from mechanical work to tile, electrical, drywall. You name it, he can do it. Or he'll figure it out :)

  • I met my DH after I was forced to go out by my BFF. Little did I know the whole thing was a set up to meet my now DH. We dated for 2 years and then DH popped the question. We got married in October 2009. My DH name is Michael and he works for UPS. He likes to work on his truck, fish and basically do any other typical guy stuff. We have only been married 2 years and have had a lot of things to deal with. Both of MH grandmothers passed away right after the wedding a month apart and my uncle passed away a couple months after that. Now we both find out we have infertility issues. It hasn't been easy, but it has made us a stronger couple. I dont know what I would do with out him.

  • I like this! My DH is Aaron and he is my everything. I know that sounds silly, but he is the best. We have been together over 9 years. We met through a mutual friend when I was 18 and he was 22. We have been inseparable ever since.

He works for a tire warehouse and tends to work long hours in the winter, but he does it with a smile. He is the most wonderful uncle to our 6 nieces and nephews. I know he will be an amazing father when we finally get to have our own children. He is romantic in small ways like leaving a note on the fridge for me or getting me flowers for no reason. He means the world to me and even through all of the IF stuff, he is my rock. I tend to gush when asked about him Smile

  • I love how excited everyone is to talk about their men!  Mine is Andrew.  We're both 32 and got married in October.  We met as freshmen in the laundry room of our dorm.  He was dating my roommate (who is still my best friend). The three of us spent a lot of time together, but I didn't realize I was actually in love with him until they started to drift apart and he sent me an excerpt from Tropic of Capricorn (a book I had lent him).  It started "Once in a lifetime, you meet a woman . . . "  I realized in that instant that I was in love for the first time.  My brother read the excerpt at our wedding 10 years later.  Andrew was my first kiss - on the dock at my grandmother's beach house.  You know that cliche where the girl gets her first kiss and looks at herself in the mirror to see if she looks any different?  That was me!  Today marks the beginning of our first TTC attempt - we're so excited!
  • Oh, and I haven't really introduced myself (or put up any cool pictures like the rest of you).  I'm Hannah.  Just getting started.  I've been lurking around for a couple of months.  Happy to be here!
  • My hubby and I met in high school of all places, although we didn't date back then even though I knew he had a crush on me.  DH went to college, dropped out and joined the USMC.  We kept in touch and when he returned home from Iraq he had really grown up and was looking good! I think I dumped my boyfriend that week, and we've been inseparable since.  That was over 8 years ago.  We?ve been married almost 5 years.

DH manages an HVAC parts school and is working on his degree at night.  He is constantly making me laugh and just makes everyday together fun. He is the funniest person I know.  He is strong, supportive, and I know he always has my back.  He is my constant and I love him like crazy.

My husband is 29 years old. He is a SSG in the Army.  We met our Senior year of high school and have been together ever since.  He has been deployed 4 times (Iraq 3 and Afghanistan 1) in the 11 years that he's been in the Army.
