I know my baby - thankyou very much

Too many cooks ...

My parents were here today. They helped by giving me a break and helping with Layla.  However, after she woke up a bit too early after a walk and wouldnt stop fussing it was everyone has an opinion time.  She was crying at the top of her lungs in my Mom's lap so I took her.  For some reason, they felt bad for me and kept taking her away from me to "fix her" I tried to explain that she is just a baby and cant be fixed and she just takes some time to calm down.

My Mom was having none of it, she made everyone whisper, but my baby actually sleeps better with a bit of noise. I finally was allowed to suggest that her bum was wet - it was - that helped calm her.  Then I wanted to feed her again (I know my baby and she eats ALL the time) but I let my Mom convince me that she had enough.  My Mom finally settled her down and got her in to bed.  Then my parents left.  25 minutes later, who was awake? and hungry - poor baby.  I got her settled in 5 minutes after she ate.

The same thing happened on Saturday night.  I guess the whole family of ILs thought that I was burping the baby too roughly.  I know my baby - and she needs a strong massage to get her burp out.  I have done it in front of doctors and nurses without any opinions.  It is most important that she gets her gas out.  they just tap her lightly and we all know that will never work.  Luckily my H told them that it was fine and they should MYOB.  MIL also told me that I was dressing baby in too hot of an outfit at the same time as worrying that she didnt have enough layers on!

I know my baby - I can tell when she is hungry, I know when she needs more help to burp and I know how many layers she needs.

I blame myself for not being more assertive.

  • First if all your baby has a great name:) Secondly don't you just love everyone has an opinion days? For me, my parents are great, and in laws are great, it's my grandmothers I wish would STFU! Honestly, I know what's best for my baby, I appreciate your concern but this isn't the 60's when you had your babies, and no you did not breastfeed, do you're not slowed to have an opinion about that. I feel for you!

  • I know how you feel. My mother seems to have an opinion about EVERYTHING. My mother will come over to visit and would always like to say DD1 (when she was wearing diapers) had a dirty diaper. She would always say, " You are soppy wet." This would always piss me off b/c I changed DD1 every time she woke up (when she was a baby) even if the diaper was very lightly soiled. I don't believe in leaving a dirty diaper on my children for very long and I think its disgusting when parents wait until the diaper is leaking to change a childs butt. Not to mention, both of my daughters do not like a dirty diaper to sit on them. There was times where I had literally just changed her and then answered the door when she arrived. She would walk in and want to hold DD1. Sit down and say, "You are soppy wet." I would reply with, I just changed her butt. And she would say, "Well she has already soiled this one and needs her diaper changed." Angry

It seems like almost everyone has an opinion about everything and it can be very irritating when it comes to raising your child. Some of them mean well but sometimes people need to keep things to their self.

Feel your frusteration....my mom said I burp DS too hard...I asked if she remembered visiting in NICU and how hard they burped him? It was just as hard and he was a hell of alot littler then...so he's fine.

My personal petpeeve is when they feed 1/2 a bottle and then proceed to "play" with babies..and tell me the baby is full. Do you really think I pumped and packed 5oz when my baby will only eat 3? NO pumping is not fun so I guarentee you that I am packing only what they are eating on a normal basis...now your 3oz is just enough to get them to nap for 45 minutes and be up again screaming...thanks.

  • I love my mom to death but she does the exact same thing!!!! When my little man starts crying and I'm holding him she tells him "Don't worry Wyatt Grammie is right here." She then proceeds to try and take him from me. I know she doesn't realize she is stepping over my toes but i don't want to hurt her feelings by telling her to let me calm my son down.

  • Get ready for plenty of unsolicited advice now tha you have a child. From practically everyone, strangers too. Good times

  • I totally get this! I have a friend who thinks she's an expert now that she has a 5-month old, and started giving me advice on everything under the sun (even though, hello, I have an almost 2-year old...I've had a baby before, thanks...) Anyway, she was holding DD and was trying to calm her down, and said 3 times that she thought DD was hungry (even though I'd fed her 45 minutes before.) I kept saying she's not, that she's just gassy and needs to burp, but eventually I got so frustrated, and thought, "What is she IS hungry, and I'm just being stubborn, and not nursing her as a matter of principle?" so I said fine, and tried nursing her. Within a minute she puked, giving my chest a nice bath in it, and getting it all over my pants. That was THE LAST time I will ever let someone convince me that my baby is hungry! It happened again with a different friend last week, so I just took DD and held her exactly how I was TELLING the person to hold her, and she was asleep within 3 minutes.

So yeah, I've been learning over the last few weeks to trust my instincts and stick to my guns!

I let my mom do this same thing to me.  I knew DS was just overtired, but he tends to be a snacker in the afternoons.  So I fed him again (after he just ate).  Spit up does not feel good going down my clevage.

Glad I'm not the only one wearing spittup as their signature perfume this season!

    ?

    ?

LOLOL I have the same problem with MIL! She says the EXACT same thing in a manner like "Your not changing his diaper, your a horrible mother" So.. I let her watch him and she finally saw that he wets his diaper every 20 min it seems.. She STILL says that crap though even if she watches me change him and 2 min later he wets himself again.. its ridiculous and really pisses me off.?
