reflux or just fussy or colic

my baby was so good for the first 3 weeks.  Now, she is so fussy.  She will drink her bottle for 5 minutes really good and then she will start to scream.  Nothing will console her - then 5 minutes later, she will take the bottle again.  I feel bad if she is upset about something but I try to burp her and nothing or she burps but is still inconsolable.

After her feedings she has been spitting up a lot.  not just a little tiny bit, but 10ml or so.  I have given up changing her clothes, now I just dress her in layers to she doesnt feel the wetness.  and 9 times out of 10, it ends up on me.  Sometimes she spits up even more than that.

I elevated her head in her bed to see if that might help.

she is also napping for only 30 minutes when late last week she was doing almost 2 hours.

any thoughts

Re: reflux or just fussy or colic

  • and she cries at night for about 2-3 hours straight and wont settle between 10pm- 1am.

I kind of want someone to say that this is just the way babies are.  then again, if I can `cure`her with something, I would feel like a better Mommy.

  • This is what happened with lo. She is bf and would pull away, scream, and arch her back. But because she was spitting up so much she was constantly hungry so it is a vicious cycle. The dr said it was acid reflux and but her on prilosec and she is doing much better

  • Sounds like it could just be gas. Try burping better/more often.

Sounds like my LO ask your doctor if you can switch the formula. It's working for my DS. I also put gas drops in every feeding. I also realized DS enjoys powdered better than already mixed...weird..maybe but hey it works. DS is very difficult to burp so someone told me to do "sit ups" and it works every.time. lay LO flat on your legs and support its head with your hand and the other I'm its belly and lift LO up and down 3 times and then pat its back to burp. Works like a charm! Sorry for typos I'm on my phone

which gas drops do you use? do you add them to the bottle?

and we just switched to the liquid concentrated from the powder - maybe that is a problem?

I also think she is learning to digest a little bit.  I am going to give her a couple days to see how she does.  on the one hand, what I read about reflux fits her, but on the other hand - she doesnt cry when she is being changed (and is flat on her back) and she tends to only cry really badly at night-time for a few hours.  But she hiccups ALL the time. However, it doesnt seem to bother her.
