Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What's wrong with my baby? Gas, fussy, spit-up, etc.

My almost-three month old has some issue...She is EBF. She fusses when she's awake, especially crying all evenings (between 7 and 10), and seems to have a lot of gas, and burps several times after a feed...She also very often spits up...sometimes more milk than other times.

The dr. said she has colic - will go away on its own. We've tried everything - swaddling, removing dairy from my diet, anis water, warm bath, keeping upright after feeding, etc.

 HELP! Any advice or suggestions?

  • How is her poop? Yellow or green? Explosive? Could you have an oversupply of milk?

  • Her poop is always yellow... A few times it's explosive, but not always. Some days she doesn't even poop at all. I don't know about oversupply - maybe. What are the symptoms of that? What do I do if that's it? I've never read about that...
  • Maybe growth spurt too? Also I thought colic peaked at 3 months. Has anyone brought up acid reflux to you?
  • My almost 4 week old has the same symptoms.  I'm afraid it's colic.  No fun, no fun at all.  The crying is nonstop.

  • She might have painful reflux. Reflux is common, and if she is spitting up a lot she might have it.

No oversupply then. Could be reflux as PPs suggested.

  • Definitely colic.  If you are breastfeeding try cluster feeding--offering a feeding throughout the fussy time.  She won't eat more than she should or expect it 24/7 but cluster feeding is very normal during fussy time and can be very helpful in keeping your sanity!  Just park yourself on the couch with a book and see if she will feed on and off for a few hours.  You won't get much done but it will be quiet and she might be more content.
