Recommend your face lotion...

I'm thinking about calling up MTV to see if they need someone for 16 & Pregnant, because with this acne I feel like I'm in high school again! It's ridiculous! I've always had issues with acne and prescription creams help but I can't use them now that I'm pg. Can anyone save me a trip to my (expensive!) dermatologist? TIA!

Re: Recommend your face lotion...

  • About a week ago I broke out REAL BAD, and it HURT. I've just been using an Apricot Scrub and not wearing makeup when I can help it. I used to have real bad acne, and Proactiv even used my picture on their website because their product worked so well for me... I'm surprised these pregnancy hormones haven't made my acne much worse than it is! But I highly recommend the apricot scrub, works well for me!

  • I was going to post today asking if anybody else is having acne problems since they got pregnant.  Mine is out of control!  I use Proactive which is helping a little bit.  Guess that doesn't really help- but I wanted you to know you're not alone! lol.

  • I decided on the Alpha Hydrox line from Ulta because glycolic acid is still safe during pregnancy. That way you're still getting the exfoliation that acne needs. To get my makeup off though I use Purpose face wash. I also use clarisonic twice a day.

ETA: it has awesome reviews, even by pregnant women.  And I think the entire line cost me around $60

  • I started using Belli facewash and lotion when I found out I was pg (was using proactiv before) and so far it has bene amazing. I am not sure if it is the hormones that are clearning my skin or the fashwash but my skin has been great (it was a mess with DD). A little pricey but worth it.

  • mario badescu has awesme product as well. If you get any cystic acne then I would try the buffering lotion. It works wonders! I get a few of those painful ones and they are gone within 2-3 days

  • I have the same problem. I have had acne since age 13 and since being off the pill my skin looks like I am 13 again... I use Unrefined Coconut Oil (can buy at health food grocery stores). It comes in a jar and is a thick white (solid) oil. It is a natural antibacterial and antifungal product. It has really been helping me with my breakouts.

You just take a small scoop and warm it between your hands until it becomes an oil and smooth all over your face and neck. Rinse with a soft wash cloth and warm water. It leaves a fabulous moisture behind. You can also use Cetaphil daily moisturizer if you need extra moisture. The coconut oil feels and smells like you are getting a spa treatment every time you wash your face!

  • I tried Proactiv once and was so sensitive to it I walked around with what looked like a chemical burn for days-- oops! I use Aveeno scrub in the shower, and then the Benefit "Triple Facial Emulsion" cream that you can buy at Ulta or Sephora. It's so awesome, and it smells wonderful!

  • I use Paula's Choice products. Started using them before our wedding 5 years ago and never went back!

I use this lotion in the morning or this lotion at night.

  • Ah, pregnancy acne, fun!  I was using the Dr. Wexler line before and had to switch b/c it contains benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid.  I went to Sephora over the weekend and bought the "Boscia" line. (https://www.sephora.com/browse/brand_hierarchy.jhtml?brandId=5729)  It's all natural and has been working great for me! I'm very happy with it.

  • I use Clear Advantage from Arbonne.

Arbonne uses all botanical based ingredients in all of their products. They even have a line of protein shakes and other nutrition things that are botanical based, FDA & vegan approved. Arbonne's products also pass the Canadian and European food and drug standards. I love the clear advantage set. It comes with a wash, toner, lotion and spot treatment. And it smells like peppermint & the toner doesn't burn or sting like most over the counter acne toners.

My 17 yr old brother swears by it too.

Another product I like to use also by Arbonne is the RE9 revitalizing mist. It's a toner too. If I am feeling lazy, I just spritz it on before I leave. I've done it when I had a bad breakout and by the time I got home, the breakout wasn't nearly as bad. The RE9 mist basically just balances out the pH levels  & absorbs the oils on your face.

  • I use Burt's Bees tomato complexion soap (which I recently learned is being discontinued - grr), Burt's Bee's tomato toner and Aveno face lotion.

I also occasionally use apricot scrub (target's version of St. Ives) to exfoliate & Clinique's emergency mask for a deep clean (skin feels AMAZING after using this stuff.

Love them all. I'm hunting down every store I can think of for that darn tomato soap before they don't exist anymore. :)
