Decorating for holidays

Nicole's post got me thinking about when to decorate for the holidays.  DS's birthday is the 3rd, so I've decided I will never decorate for Christmas until after his birthday.  What are you guys doing?

  • We always wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate (I hate that it gets trampled over!), but we'll decorate before Nora's birthday this year, at least. Her b-day party is at our house, and we're doing a nature theme, so the tree will fit right in. Wink

  • Yes, we usually decorate the weekend or week after Thanksgiving.  Lo's bday is the 18th too close to xmas to be putting up decorations, the tree and everything comes down over new years weekend.

  • Jack's birthday is December 2nd, so DH and I decided the same as you, we will wait until after his bday to decorate.  We think we'll wait a couple of days afterward at least, that way they are separate events.
I used to be a big deal.  Now I'm just old.
  • Landon's birthday is in January, so we are obviously decorating before. (We are actually doing it Wednesday night so we can both be home when he sees the tree for the first time, on Thanksgiving morning.)

FWIW, my birthday is December 3 and my parents usually decorated the first weekend in December, so sometimes on my birthday weekend. I always pushed them to have the house decorated before my birthday because I love Christmas so much.

  • If William's birthday was early in the month, I'd do what you're doing and wait.  But since he's born on the 17th, we'll go ahead and decorate in early December.

  • O's birthday is 11/29 and I already have the tree up, actually we put it up two nights ago. He was enthralled by the lights last year and I wanted to have it up for him to enjoy as long as possible this year. We usually only decorate the one room but it's a room in the middle of the house you can see from just about everywhere. That said, we are still going to put up birthday decorations for his party, especially since we are celebrating his bday the same day we are celebrating/hosting Thanksgiving.

My cousin has a birthday on 12/9 and for the first four or five years she thought the tree and all the decorations were special for her birthday. She's going to be 9 this year and still asks to make sure everything is decorated before her birthday.

  • LO's birthday is after Christmas, so we're definitely decorating before that =P  We'll probably decorate this weekend, after Thanksgiving.

FWIW, I don't see the need to wait to decorate.  I don't have a December birthday, but I think that if I did, I wouldn't mind having Christmas decorations up.  I looove Christmas.

  • I'd like to wait until after Isaac's b-day - 12/10.  Hoping the kids will hold off until then.  We'll see how it works out.

  • I was thinking about this the other day, andI don't think that I'd want to wait until Dec 17th to put up the tree.  We're probably going to do it next weekend, because DH is scheduled off.

  • My birthday is Christmas so speaking from experience... I don't think your LO's would mind having Christmas decorations up.  I have always loved the Christmas season, so my decorations are going up the day after Thanksgiving!  Plus, LO's birthday is after Christmas, so it's not like I can wait anyway :)

  • Huh, I guess DH & I should talk about this.  I have the feeling we'll wait though since P's party is 12/10 & we will need the space.  Even though we did immediate family & close friends, it'll be like 60+ people.  I wish I was kidding.
