Re: popcorn

  • I hope so. My son has been eating popcorn for the past year and he turns 3 next month.

  • Gee, I sure hope so.  My DD has been eating it since before age 2.  Just like any o0ther food, talk to her about chewing it and swallowing it and not stuffing her mouth.  But seriously, after reading in a magazine that I should cut raisins in half until age 4 because of a choking hazard, I've decided that experts are mostly delusional.

  • DD has been eating popcorn since age 2 or maybe even before that.  She loves popcorn, especially during family movie night.

  • We waited until he was just over three just because we don't eat grains at home and the opportunity hadn't presented itself until we went to the movies around that age.

  • I think I can safely say it is one of the major food groups in my house.

Our pedi was fine with it once they understood chewing correctly.

  • DD is 18mos, and it's one of her favorite foods. Embarrassed  She's been eating it for awhile, but I think the textbook, anti-choking recommendation is like 6yo or something.

  • Sarah's been eating it for a while...but i'm careful to watch out for unpopped seeds or half popped ones.  i think those are the big choking hazard

  • I'm just a lurker but if I remember correctly, one of the big hazards with popcorn isn't really choking, it's aspirating. Because the pieces are so lightweight they can easily be inhaled but they won't come back out with the Heimlich maneuver.

This. I don't think most children with a normal sized esophagus could choke on an unpopped popcorn kernel. :)
