paradise valley or scottsdale on shea?

We've recently moved to north Phoenix, and our new house is about half way between Paradise Valley and Scottsdale on Shea.... Any recs on where we should deliver?  I've heard good things about both.  Thanks for your feedback.

  • I'm not sure about PV but I did deliver at Shea and I would highly recommend it.  Our L&D nurse was amazing!!  I couldn't have asked for anyone better (not sure if she is still there though, she was 5 months pregnant with twins when I was there).  My whole experience was great.

  • After going back and forth between which to deliver at (my doctor has rights at both), we ended up going to PV. I really wanted to go to Scottsdale Shea, but my doctor preferred PV. I ended up being induced and my doctor said that she likes the induction drugs at PV much better. Plus, they are able to schedule an induction, whereas Shea was not.

I loved all the L&D nurses and most of the PP nurses. There really was only one nurse I didn't like, and she was a night nurse so I didn't have to deal with her much.

Our only real complaint was that the chairs for the guys are REALLY uncomfortable to sleep on, so if you end up going to PV, bring a twin size mattress pad or sleeping bag or something. When they called me for a survey, I mentioned this and they said everyone says that and they are working on getting that replaced.

  • I delivered at Scottsdale Shea and had an absolutely amazing experience.  I've also been attending the MOMs Group that is offered through the hospital and met an amazing group of people.

How ironic- our day nursery nurses were aweful to us with DD (because of the adoption) except Kathy but our night nurse Sherry was AMAZING

Funny, we had the same problem!  Our night nurse was an older lady and was not very helpful or nice either!  It's like 'I'm sorry my baby is crying, I'm totally new at this and need a little help!'.  She sighed a couple times when I paged her for help like she had better things to do!  But our day nurse was amazing!!!!!

  • We seem to be the only ones who hated Scottsdale Shea. I am pretty laid back and easy to please, but it was just one thing after another. Some in their control (complete lack of BF support, outright lied to about well baby nursery on tour, didn't think I'd even want it, but then DS didn't sleep at all, burning popcorn in the nurses station during DS's carseat test, the only time in 3 days I had to sleep), some not (epidural didn't work, DS would not sleep at all after first 12 hours). But, our experience was not good. I hear so much great stuff about them I honestly wonder if when things weren't going well for us, they just stopped trying. We had to stay an extra night because my son was a late term preemie and I swear I hardly saw a nurse that third day. When they came in, I was nearly in tears because I had not slept in 3 days and DS wouldn't sleep unless I was sitting completely straight and not against the bed. My Dr said they should have offered to take the baby to the nurse's station, but when I asked them about the well baby nursery, I was treated like I wanted to put him in a volcano. I later found out it had closed 6 months earlier, even though I was told it was an option for 2-3 hours at a time like 2 weeks earlier on the tour. I didn't think I would even want it, but trust me, after getting maybe 30 min sleep in 72 hours, I was desperate!
