  • baby cries for at least 3 hours a day, at least 3 days a week  for no apparent reason.

baby has been fed, changed, is not too hot or cold, holding baby, rocking, etc will not help (maybe for a few minutes, but it will start back up again) basically nothing you do will calm the baby

This! My DS for the last two days was pretty much inconsolable from the time he woke up 5:30-6a until about 5:30p. The only times he was quiet was when he was being fed and maybe he would take a 10 min cat nap after and he is right back screraming his head off. You feel pretty helpless but other than making sure they are fed and dry there is not much else you can do for them than just try and give them some comfort.

  • I'm sure my baby is colicky.  She has cried all day.  ALL DAY LONG.  Not the first day this week of this either.  I feel like I'm going crazy.

  • Listen to the way your baby cries. I noticed a clear difference with ours. He had a usual cry when he was hungry or had a wet diaper but he had a totally different cry as if something horrible was happening to him. He would do this sometimes completely out of no where but usually it would happen after a feeding. We ended up having to change his formula 3 times now! So far he hasn't been crying like something was bothering him in a while...knock on wood! LO!L

I'm a FTM and my son is only 2 weeks old right now, but i watched The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD (and read the book) before he was born and the calming techniques have already come in handy. he gives especially good swaddling techniques that have made LO sleep so much better. If you haven't watched/read these I would definitely recommend them! Good luck!
