Mommas of boys, potty help please!

How do you deal with public restroom potty's while out? Today he peed on his clothes, my clothes, and the floor at B3! lol

I bought a folding seat for this but it failed. I don't want to remove his shoes and pant/undie leg to allow his to open his legs farther. I hate that he has to hold on to the seat, so gross. I am trying to teach him to hold "it" down, but doing that while holding him up is hard.

I did put a potty in the car, I had to....so much easier to have him sit to go before we enter a store than have to deal with a public restroom!

I hope he grows taller quick so I can just have him stand!

WDYD?

  • We just remove 1 shoe and take down the pants/undies that way. I know it's not convenient :(

Well, I suppose it is more convenient that both of us ending up with wet clothes! I am hoping the frequency of potty stops slows down once he realizes he can hold it longer.

Does J still sit to pee? I am just wondering how long until R can do this standing up!

  • Pull pants down, lift him under his arms and lean him over the potty to pee standing.  DH came up with this technique when Ty was too short and it worked great.  Now, if only Bri could stand and pee instead of holding the seat...
  • When DS was too short to stand by himself we would stand behind him and he would stand on our feet with a little boost under his armpits.  With DS#2, he insists on standing since his big brother stands so we just hold him up under his armpits facing the toilet.
  • J still sits- he also knows to "point himself down". I'm not rushing him to stand- I hear their pee goes everywhere... I just imagine that game at the fair where you race using the water gun stream and water splashes all over the place.

I'm totally LOL'ing at this!  I remember my realtor said when she was PT'ing her boys, she put bubble bath in the toilet so when they peed, it made bubbles. Her boys are now in their 30's and still tell her they have to "go make bubbles."  :-)

  • Ian still sits to pee. We did attempt standing up, but after a particularly bad experience where he, half the bathroom floor, and I got soaked in pee, he was traumatized into going back to sitting Embarrassed. We have an extra high toilet, so he needs to grow a couple more inches before standing will be easier. He is good at holding it down, and when we're out, I have him hold himself up, and I point him down. I use a toilet disposable toilet cover that I carry with me, and scrub his hands afterwards. Probably not the best solution, but it works for us right now.
  • I cover the seat with toilet paper as best I can and hold him on the toilet.  When I do that his hands don't touch the seat.  And then I pray that he doesn't pee on his pants.  At home he always wants one leg out of his pants which is a pain, but makes it less likely for pee to get on his pants.  When we're out he doesn't make me take one leg out.  I just have to be very careful that he's sitting far enough back so we don't have any accidents.
