Nap schedule

My LO's schedule is basically this:

630-830 up

830- 900 nap

9:00- 1100 up

1130-1200 nap

1200-230 up

230-400 nap

400-600-up

6-630 nap

Bed time is between 730 and 8.

Sorry, I know that is confusing to read, but she has so many short naps. I have tried to fight them, and have her stay up longer, but she gets so mad, rubbing her eyes, clingy...all her signs of sleepyness. When I put her down, she goes down.

Just keep doing this, and eventually the naps will get less and less? The half hour naps just seem silly,  especially the half hour one before bed!

For the millionth time, what is your LO's nap schedule- and do you have any tips to ease off so many?

Re: Nap schedule

  • That's insane! I have no advice, just wanted to make you feel like *** Stick out tongue

    kidding, Em's schedule is:

    7am-9am UP

    9-11am nap

    11-1pm up

    1-3pm nap

    3-8pm up

down for the night by 8pm

There's a lot of flexibility in there for days when we are out and about. She's pretty good with delaying a nap if she's entertained.

I guess if Whitney's happy with her current schedule I say stick it out. More than likely it's a phase that will change soon enough. She's still staying awake for an appropriate amount of time between naps, just taking more frequent short ones. I'm a firm believer in the more sleep they get the more they need/want. Occasionally Em will take a cat nap an hour before bedtime and I swear those are the nights she goes down for bed the best.

  • Times vary greatly, so here is our rythym...

Up (somewhere between 6:30 and 7:30, if I'm lucky, H wakes her up on his way out at 5:00) for one hour

    Down for one hour

Up for hour and a half

Down for 1.5 to 2.5 hours

    Up for 1.5 hours

    Down for 1-1.5 hours

    Up...

I try to squeeze in a 45 minute nap here, depending on when H gets home. She naps like crap when he's in the house so we don't usually even bother.

Bed time varies, again depending on when H gets home, also what we have to do that night (sometimes he has to do a lot of noisey stuff to get ready for the next day), and crankiness level. She's gone down as early as 6 and as late as 9:30. Lately it's been somewhere around 8.

  • Weekends, she is up around 6:30, naps around 10:30 am for an hour or two (usually with me), up until 3:00 ish for an hour, down for the night at 7:00/7:30.  During the week she doesn't nap at daycare, so she will come home and sleep for an hour, get up for dinner and playtime, and go to bed for the night at 7:00/7:30.  She still fusses at least twice during the night, but it is easiest and fastest if I just go in, stick the paci in her mouth, and cover her with her blanket.  Crying it out worked for a little while, but she will sit up and wake herself fully if I don't just go in early, so I do it.  Creating a monster, maybe, but it takes 5 seconds and she is back out and I am back to sleep.
  • I use the term "schedule" very loosely.

Most days - up between 6 and 6:30 am

Nap about 3 hours later for 1 - 2 hours

Nap about 3 hours after that for 30 minutes - 1 hour (usually short though)

    Bed around 6:45 - 7:15

I've been trying to push his bedtime later cause JT will sleep 11 hours only lately with 1 feeding during that time so if he goes to bed by 6 - 6:30 he's up at 5 - 5:30 (like today since he missed that short nap yesterday afternoon) and I want to jump off a cliff.

He was napping like W for a while and it drove me nuts. I realized keeping him up a bit longer helped him nap longer and cut down on those short ones. He will only sleep at home so I need a longer time span in between to get errands done.

  • 7-10/11 - up

    11-noon - nap

    noon-3/4 - up

    4-5 - nap

    bedtime is 8-9ish.

She's been going down pretty consistently right after Jeopardy for a couple weeks now, but sometimes she fights it hard.  She'll whine and whine so I just let her play it out and whine because holy god I cannot take it. lol.
