Army Crawling

Curious to see what came before the army crawl. DS rolls everywhere, but when you put something out of his reach he will occasionally get up on his knees with his chest still on the floor and push forward and the rest of the time he is swimming in place :)  Not really using his arms at all. Not worried, just curious.

Re: Army Crawling

  • Mine went from rolling, to now planting his hands and pulling up to them.  He started by just doing it once - lunging to get to the toy he wanted, but now he's started doing it in succession to get feet at a time.  He's better on hardwood, but is now trying, and doing better on carpet.

He's also rising up on his knees, but turning to the side. I imagine it'll be at least another month or so until he's crawling for real.

  • DD moves her legs but pushes more with her arms so she goes backwards right now!  She has been getting up on her knees & rocking, but doesn't move anywhere.  I have seen her lunge for something in front of her when she gets up on her knees also.

  • Mine started scooting around with his belly on the floor.  Then he would get up on all fours and rock back and forth and after that came crawling.  He has been full on crawling for about 4-5 weeks now.

  • DS was rolling around a lot to get to things.  He would roll two or three times in a row in order to get over to a toy.  He did that for about 3 or 4 weeks and then he started getting up on all fours and rocking back and forth. After about a week of that he started sort of dragging himself along the floor for about a day and then the next day he was full on army crawling.

  • A lot of rocking up on elbows and knees, pushing backwards with her hands and than pushing forward with her legs (kinda like a catapillar).  The Friday before halloween, she did it.  There was a favorite toy out of reach and she army crawled to it!  Now, there is no stopping her and she is fast, I wonder when/if she will push up and crawl with her hands.

  • Reese does the "Inchworm" to get things that are a few feet away. She lays complete flat, and pushing from her butt, then flattens again, then pushes again. Typically she can get 4-5 feet out of it.

    She does roll everywhere though.
