Re: to doppler or not to doppler
we rented one with both pregnancies and were happy to have it when i was not feeling a lot of movement - or had to take meds for pain (I had kidney stones with my first pg, and horrible migraines with both).
just know that it's not always easy to find the HB's - so you can't freak out. My OB always told me if I couldn't find them I could call him and come in to ahve a check- it was never needed.... either we'd find them, or i'd feel movement shortly after and not need to call the OB.
get one with a digital count b/c it's hard to find both if you are doing math to figure out the rate.
Our crazy, wonderful life
Nope. My OB told me not to get one and for once in my life I listened. I would have driven myself batty. I did a good job of that WITHOUT a doppler!
I'm on the fence whether to recommend one or not ... I've had one since my daughter, and gave it away on purpose until the babies were about 12-13 weeks. But even at that time, I couldn't tell who was who, and where they were, so from early on, until about 14 weeks I stopped by my OB's end of day each thurs and he would u/s scan me for HB's quick. That way we both had a decent weekend, lol.
Once I knew where they were (I have frequent u/s due to some issues) I do ok finding them, but one doesn't move much. The other squirrel's all over the place.
PLUS... both (b/g) have HB's in the 140's... so yeh, it's tricky. But can be done when I can't feel them moving all the time. (I'm almost 19 weeks)
ps I use a BIG blog of aloe gel and that seems to really cut down on noise.

This was me too. I didn't expect to find separate HBs...sometimes I could but not always. I had a late loss before the twins and this is the only thing that got me to the point I felt regular movement.
I got one...Sonoline B. It cost me $50 and it's nice to have. I, like some others, told myself from the beginning that I'd be happy just to find 1 heartbeat. At this point not even my OB can find them each on a doppler.
I'm glad I have it.

I looked into it too but my doctor also has a hard time finding both on the handheld doppler, or distinguishing b/w them.
Also, I have gotten way more ultrasounds than any of my friends with singletons, so for me, all those ultrasounds are good reassurance.
I'd say pass, unless you know someone that will let you borrow it for free or something, even then, it might frustrate you more than make you at ease.

This!
We LOVE ours. We're pretty much always able to find both heartbeats. One baby is low down by my pelvis and the other is up by my navel. I listen to it for a short while daily. One of my placentas is anterior, so I am just starting to feel them move & mostly on the side. For us, it was a great investment.
