how much does delivery and baby care cost at NAMC?

Trying to figure out how much to fund in our FSA next year. Insurance changed and my previous awesome plan of paying nothing now changed to paying a possible $4K, in addition to the added amount it costs now per month Crying So anyways, how much does a delivery cost at NAMC, and how much does the baby care cost? I will hopefully be a VBAC, but good chances a RCS (at which point I will meet my OOP max), but we don't want to overestimate and lose that money at the end of the year. I am NOT asking how much you paid with insurance, but how much the total cost typically is, if you know this.

Re: how much does delivery and baby care cost at NAMC?

  • I had a C/S and my in hospital care plus anesthesiologist plus ob (who also did additional surgery that was about $2000) plus pedi was about $15,000. (Total of what they all submitted to insurance).

  • The total billed from NAMC to my insurance company for my stay was $16,555. My OBGYN billed $3,550 for the birth. For DS, NAMC  billed $2,100 and his pedi visits while in the hospital billed $600.

I had a vaginal birth with epidural and stayed 2 nights.

Now of course what my insurance company actually paid NAMC was a fraction of what was actually billed.

    hope that helps.

  • On the bill, before insurance adjustments, $1600 for baby, pediatrician charged $425 for hospital visits, doctor charged global fee $3550 for vaginal delivery, hospital charged $15,500 for my hospital stay.  I am expecting a bill from the anesthesiologist because I would think they charge separately (the hospital bill was not detailed) I don't think it was rolled into the hospital bill, but I'm not sure.  Also, am getting charged for the newborn hearing screening, but I haven't gotten that bill yet.

If you have insurance, even if it's crap, most of the time, there will be some sort of contracted price or reduction, so most likely, you won't have to pay the cash price.

  • i contribute between $1500-$2000 to our fsa and we almost always run out of money by july. every year i up it and we just always run out. i can't imagine with 2 kids that you would have that much extra.  just thought i'd throw that in there!

  • I wanted to add to my previous post since I just got the bill from the anethesiologist.  They charged $3900 for the epidural!  Wow.  I'll try and hold out a little longer next time for the natural birth =p.
