I'm sure this is possible. I have a moby and an ergo on the way. Anyone with experience of starting wearing at an older age? She stays calms/loves being marched around and it has been hard for me to get anything done. She is a smaller 6 month old: 15lb 4oz and 26inches long. Has excellent head control. Do I still need a newborn insert? Thanks so much in advance!
Re: Starting babywearing at 6 months
I wore my DD at that size w/o an infant insert.
I actually wore her a lot more at 6+ months old than I did prior to 6 months. She loves it.
Definitely don't need the infant insert if she has good head control. You can always prop her bottom on a rolled up blanket in the Ergo if her head seems to hit the top of the carrier in a strange way.
Good luck with the babywearing! At that age, I found it to be a lifesaver!
My LO gets so excited when she sees me pull out the Moby. She loves being in there all wrapped up. It is a lifesaver when we are out (especially at church and the movies) because it is easy for me to sit down with her still in it.
FWIW, she's 7.5 months and 18 lbs.
I know it's been said before on here, but I like to think of this as a group of like minded parents- doing or not doing a lot of the "AP thing" is definitely not necessary
OP- I love the Ergo for my (giant) 5 month old. You definitely do not need the insert. Have fun having free hands!

Thank you all for your feedback. And yes, you were all right. I put her in the ergo carrier and after a little bit of fiddling I got her and me comfortable. Marched around the house for a while and then I sat down for a few minutes. She fell asleep in the thing for over an hour. So sweet. I'll be getting the Moby wrap in a couple days - curious how that one works out (will be good for next baby too).
And thanks for the suggestion of putting in a blanket on her bottom to give her boost. It put her in a more comfortable position for where her face is in relation to the straps.
I think I'll go shopping tomorrow - baby wearing style!
