I think LO is going through a growth spurt. He has been STARVING the last 3 days. He started on Pepcid last week and since he started, almost all his reflux symptoms are doing better! So horay!
He's 3 1/2 weeks old and is supposed to be eating 2 ounces every 2.5 hours. Right now, he screams at an hour 45 minutes to eat. I've tried giving him a little more and he's keeping it down and is comfortable afterwards. (other than earlier today when he was a velocoraptor and just skreeetched for an hour..then pooped and was great.)
I don't know if he's not getting enough, if he's getting too much, or what. I've tried giving him the pacifier (which normally loves), and he'll suck for a littl ebit and then start screaming. It's definitely that he's hungry because it's a very different cry from the wet cry, the tired cry, the over stimulated cry, and the daddy's face feels weird cry.
So how much does your LO eat? Any ideas of what to do?
On a side note, when he was really fussy before from being gassy and needing to poop, I imitated his velocoraptor cry and he was FASCINATED!
Re: How much does your baby eat?
I came here to post this exact question!
It depends on your LO's weight but my DS is 6 pounds even and the pedi said today that he should eat 3-3.5oz every 3 hours. We had been doing 2.5-3oz every 4 hours but she said that's not enough for him now. If he keeps spitting up a ton like he has been we are going to try reflux meds too.
my read shelf:
are you sure the constant eating isn't a reflux symptom? DS had reflux and that was his primary symptom. they eat because it gives them temporary relief (before making it worse)
DD eats for 15 minutes on each side every 2 hours followed by about 1 oz pumped milk during the day. She nurses pretty much all night long

That I never thought of. He has reflux and a lot of his symptoms have faded since starting pepcid (he used to arch his back a lot, have the white resdue on his tongue, spit up a lot, scream after feedings, grunts), and lately he's calmed down a lot with that. He hasn't spit up in about 4 days (it's a triumph in my book after all the spit up)
I think I gotta call my Pedi tomorrow. I never thought of that being a reflux symptom. I also want to make sure he's getting enough....
Same here. My LO was 6 lb 13 oz at his first pedi appointment and the following pedi appointment he was still at 6 lb 13 oz so the pedi said we had to feed him every 3 hrs (she had told us he could sleep until he woke up to eat but he wasn't waking up enough) and that he should be taking 3 oz at a min at all feedings but to target 3.5 oz!!
LO was 8 lbs at birth and was at 7 1/2 at discharge and remained the same for his followup appointment, and then was 7 lbs 12 ounces. He has his next appointment next week...
Maybe going up to 3 ounces would be a good thing to try until tomorrow. I just feel so bad with how frantically he's feeding.
He went through a growth spurt yesterday and was eating 1-2 ounces every hour from 8am to 9pm. Then he stretched it out to 2.5-3 hours.
So I called the pedi and he wants Danny to be bumped up to 3-3.5 ounces every 3 hours during the day.
So far, he's been ok, but he is refluxing a lot more with the increase.
