Sleeping arrangement question

Our LOs are growing up so quickly! DS is 3 months old and sleeps in his PNP in our room. I love having him close by especially when he wakes up in the middle of the night! However, he is rapidly approaching the 15lb weight limit for the bassinet part and I'm concerned about how difficult it will be to put him down in the regular part. I have to put him down very gently and often need to pat his back for a minute or so to get him to stay asleep.

My mom is trying to convince me that it's time to move him to his crib and our pedi wants him in the crib soon too. She says that the mattress isn't supportive enough in the PNP for extended use. So, where is your LO sleeping? If your LO is in their own room, how are night time feedings? If your LO is still in your room, where do they sleep? We co-slept for a few weeks but we all sleep better when LO is in his own bed.

Re: Sleeping arrangement question

  • DS has been in his crib in his own room since day 1. When we go to friend's houses, we bring along the PNP and put him in the bottom. I do try to lay him off to the side, because the middle is where some of the bars or whatever it is underneath all meet, so it feels really hard to me. I usually try to bring along his tummy time mat to lay under him since it seems to add some softness.

It works out well for us, because DS is the next room over from ours, so it's not like I'm trekking up and down stairs or way across the house. Although, I still would've had him in his room from day 1 anyways. It's just better for everyone. Crank up the baby monitor so you can hear everything to ease your mind. I promise, it will be okay.

  • DS sleeps in his own room, in his crib. I transitioned him from the PNP in our room at 3 months (he will be four months next week). At first it was odd, having him down the hall, but now I really like it. He was STTN 8p-5:30a but lately he has thrown in a 3:30a feeding then going down until 7:00a. My husband's alarm clock was waking DS up every morning, so I had to transition him so that he wouldn't get awoken every morning

My life has a superb cast but I can't figure out the plot.
  • DD is about the same age and has been sleeping in her crib since she was 2 weeks.  There were nights where she slept with us because she was having a rough night, but every night since week 7 she has slept in her crib in her own room.  If you really don't want to move your LO into his room you can always put the crib in your bedroom??  DD STTN for about half the nights during the week.  The other nights she gets up around 4am, I just give her the paci and run downstairs to heat up the bottle.  Once I come up and if she hasn't put herself back to sleep, I change her and feed her in the rocker in my room.  DH is a heavy sleeper.  It really isn't a big deal and she is back in her crib within 30 minutes.

  • DD moved to her room last week only b/c she was getting too big for her bassinet.
  • Thanks for the support ladies. There isn't enough room for his crib in our room. His room is directly across our 3 ft wide hall from our room. I also think that he might sleep better in his own room since DH's alarm goes off between 1:30 and 3:30am on his work days. I don't know. I'm just worried about him being farther than an arm's reach away.

  • DD's first night away from us DH got her at midnight b/c he missed her and couldn't sleep. Of course now that she sleeps in the other room she stopped STTN but is getting better.

  • We actually just moved DD's crib into our room today. Before that she was in the PnP in our room but we just felt like she was outgrowing it. I'm still nursing her 2-3 times a night and we plan in keeping her in our room until she's at least 6 months old. DH and I both like having her close by.

  • DD has been in her room in the crib since night 1. 90% of the time she sttn and I'm nursing. If I have to feed her in the middle of the night then I just go in her room and feed her.

Not sure if that's true - If you want to keep your LO in there a while longer ,I suggest you contact the manufacturer of the PnP and see what they have to say about that.

Personally, I couldn't wait to get DD out of our bedroom - She makes so much noise in her sleep!
