Re: Anyone have Care Source Insurance???

  • I don't have Care Source and don't know anything about it, but from what I understand, Doulas are not typically covered by insurance at all. Totally worth it, and they absolutely should be covered - but they're not. If you can find any way to justify the cost though, I highly hiighly recommend getting one! Good luck!

  • I used my HSA funds to pay for my doula, but I don't know that they are covered under any actual policy towards your deductible.

  • I would venture to say that your insurance is not going to cover a doula but as Jess said they are DEFINITELY worth the money! Another option to consider is to look into someone who is working towards their certification who still needs to  attend a few births. My sister is finishing up her certification so I know she charges much less for her moms since she doesnt technically have her DONA certification just yet (she lives in Terre Haute, IN though). I also think some doulas work on a sliding scale so it would be worth calling around to see the different rates.

Dona.org is a good place to look and also cincinnatidoulas.org-- I would bet that some of the certified doulas might know of women who are working towards certification since I think you have to shadow a certified doula for part of your certification process.

  • I am not sure if they do, but I have CareSource. Call them up and ask! I have every time I have had a question and they help me. Like when I was trying to find out if they covered electric breast pumps. The lady told me to do xyz to make sure I got one.
  • I'm with CareSource in the communications department. I checked with member services and they confirmed that a Doula is not covered since it's a non-medical service. If you need anything else, feel free to call us - 1-800-488-0134.

    Best wishes,
