WWYD re tummy virus

DD came home from day care Friday due to vomiting. She had vomiting and diarrhea Friday, and just vomiting Saturday and Sunday. So far today, no barf. She started refusing the bottle Saturday night, but nurses just fine (I only nurse morning/night now). We started pedialyte yesterday (she got to the point where she wasn't having enough wet diapers) which she took ok for a while. Today, she's refusing everything but nursing, and even that she's not to crazy about. She also started refusing to sleep laying down last night, and that has continued to today. She hasn't had fever at all.

I know it's a virus (DH got sick too),, but I don't understand why new problems keep cropping up if original symptoms have resolved. Any advice/insight? I've left a message for the pediatrician's nurse, but am killing time waiting to hear back. I'm also feeling bummed, as DD's home with DH and I'm at work. :( Boo to WOHM guilt.

Re: WWYD re tummy virus

  • It sounds like the same thing that my son is dealing with (and he's currently home with DH). I would just keep nursing and offering liquids.  They also have pedialyte that is in popsicle form -- I just went to pick some up at lunch.  It's in the same section with the children's medicines.

I hope your DD feels better soon!!

  • The refusing to nurse and not wanting to lay down would make me suspicious of an EI. Either way, I'd keep offering her liquids and try to keep her hydrated as much as possible. Poor baby :( Hope she's better soon!

I'm thinking a possible ear infection, as well. You might want to take her in to the pedi to rule one out.

  • Thanks, y'all. I did wind up taking her in after all. No ear infection, and not (currently) dehydrated. We'll just keep pushing fluids!
