UGH...I'm a stress ball....Tubes for the man...

We have been planning a Disney trip for Emerson since last January.

Our trip was to begin on Tuesday, driving to Dallas and spending Thanksgiving with my family.  We are leaving the babies with my parents.  We were due to fly out on Saturday from Dallas to Orlando.

Wouldn't you know it....Hudson has had a horrible ear infection for over two weeks.  He's been on two rounds of antibiotics and today was his fourth steriod shot.  He is feeling a bit better but, not anything like the climbing monkey I know.

It looks like our trip is going to be postponed a bit.  He has an appointment with the ENT tomorrow morning and probably tubes in his ears on Tuesday.

I worry because I'm not leaving any time for issues with his surgery.  Both my girls have had tubes much earlier on than Hudson is getting them with no problems but, I never left town after getting their tubes in.

Has anyone had issues after putting tubes in kiddo's ears?  I'm a mess between sick kids and trying to get house, kids and pets ready to be gone for about two weeks....

  • It's okay!!!

I have never heard of serious issues, and your husband will be there, right?  I think as long as one of you is with him, everything will be fine :)  I think it's good to be there for the surgery, though.

Let us know how it goes!! :)

  • I've only heard of one bad experience with tubes, and that's from a 30 year old man.  It wasn't surgery related either, but rather a longer term after effect.  Needless to say, things have changed dramatically in the past 30 years.

I'm sure he'll be just fine!

  • It's very minor surgery, people often break their ear drums without ever knowing and they heal just fine (which is essentially what they will be doing to insert the tubes.)

I'm sorry your trip will be delayed though, we will be thinking of you!

I am sure your LO will be just fine.

  • Ack!  I have no advice on the tubes thing.  Just wanted to say, hang in there mama.

  • Big, big hugs to you! SO much to deal with all at once!

FWIW, when DD and DS had their tubes put in, DD had had an ongoing ear infection for 3 months. We'd been through 5 courses of 4 different antibiotics, and nothing was helping. Within a couple of days after the tubes were in, she was SO much better and SO much happier. I bet you'll be leaving a happy little monkey with your parents!
