Ugh...need to move DD from our arms/bed to RnP or PnP

I am dreading this. The only place DD has been ok sleeping for decent stretches at night is on us or in our bed. We have been ok with it while she was so little and it was the only way we get sleep. It seems she is stretching her night sleep out a bit now and I said that once she did that and I have the "energy", I would work on moving her to her own space. I would be lying if I said I am not absolutely terrified! I am getting used to my 3-4 hour stretches and sooooo do not want to go back to more frequent waking. Any tips, tricks or success stories are appreciated!!!

  • We moved DD to crib at one week and it was the best thing we could have done. Sure, it's hard to wake up to her on the monitor and walk to her room to nurse but now she'll know nothing but sleeping in her crib.  She does well and I get at least a 4 hour stretch out of her each night.  Good luck!

Thanks! I am finally starting to feel human so I am sure it's time.

Try to have her do her first stretch in the RnP and if she isn't having it then put her back in bed with you. Every time she wakes up to eat put her back down in the RnP first and if it doesn't work then put her back in bed with you. Have you read No Cry Sleep Solution? She has some good tips for this. The main thing is to not stress over it- you have plenty of time to make the transition.

Thanks! We will prob try it this way. I am actually a Healthy Sleep Habit, Happy Child kind of gal (not the ignoring/extinction part, but the general principles). But for this transition, I am willing to try anything. I have a feeling it will be hard.

  • GL!  We put LO in his crib from day one so we could avoid this but I know that's not an option for everyone and not something everyone feels comfortable. I'm sure you'll have a few rough nights, but hang in there. It will be worth it in the end!

Sorry I don't have anything more productive to say. lol. I'll be thinking about you tonight!
