Parenting after 35

tired all the time....

anyone else?

I am 39 with a 2 year old and a 3 month old and I feel like I never have any energy.  There are so many things that I would like to do with the kids, but I feel like it is such a project just to get us all dressed and out of the house.  I especially want to take advantage of all this nice weather, but it is hard to get motivated....any suggestions?

Re: tired all the time....

  • My only suggestion is to just power through. I almost never have any energy but I make us do things through sheer force of will ;)

  • Might also be worth a trip to your dr to check out things like thyroid levels.

  • I think it comes with being a mom. You have a young baby and a toddler. I only have one and I'm tired out too. But a trip to the doc would be good to check hormone levels including thyroid as well to check if you are anemic

  • can't hurt to have a quick appointment and get the basic blood levels checked - birth and breastfeeding can deplete your iron.  I had (have?) anemia and when my doctor asked me if I was tired I just laughed at him - of COURSE I was tired, I'm 43, work full time and have a newborn...BUT, after a few weeks on supplements, I'm realizing that the exhaustion I was feeling was excessive.  I'm still tired but I'm not "pull the car over, it's not safe to drive" exhausted.

  • I am so tired, too!  I am concerned because I have really noticed I don't sleep well. Went to my doc, and having blood work done on Friday.  DH stayed with DD today and the Daycare called saying DS had a temp.  Really?  So, planning on staying home tomorrow with 2 sick kids. Oh Joy! I'll be ready for cocktails at 5:00, thanks!

  • What they said. And coffee. Coffee

Are we talking sleepy tired, or no motivation depression type tired.

Do you have a decent pillow and mattress. I was constantly tired and not sleeping well, when we replaced our mattress, and got new decent pillows, it made a world of difference.

  • I'm 41 with a 2-year-old and am always tired (as in sleepy exhausted and need a physical) so I somewhat understand.

I hope you get less tired soon. I like gimmietimmies suggestions.

  • I'm tired most of the time too but it has to do with being on the go all day with a very active 2 yr old. I try to go to bed early some days and also take naps at least 2-3 times a week (when LO is napping). That helps a lot.
Me: 44 DH: 42. DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09. TTC since then with no luck or ART. Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.
  • Thanks for the replies.....making an appointment with dr...hopefully I'll get some answers.
