I didn't grow up in America so don't know all the 'typical' children's songs here - I was thinking of getting a CD to play in the car to DD and to learn the classics. Do you have any recommendations or favorites that you and your children love?
I really like all of the Elizabeth Mitchell CD's. Some of them include children's classics and some of them are just other children's songs (I'm not sure whether she wrote them or not). What I like about her is that her style is sort-of folksy and soft and so I don't find it annoying to listen to for an extended period of time in the car. Some of the other children's CDs I have are just sort of obnoxious and I can't take them for more than a few songs.
Our favorites are all the Putumayo CDs, and Raffi. I consider Raffi to be childrens' classics, but for sing-songy nursery rhymes and songs like "The Ants Go Marching" we just bought one of those sets of 2 or 3 discs on Amazon for children's songs...so you get tons of songs. I can't recall the exact name. DS loves it but the kids voices get to me after a few songs. So worth it in the car.
ETA: Oh, forgot about Elizabeth Mitchell. I love her stuff too...especially the first CD, "You Are My Little Bird"
and these songs are still some of his favorite to listen to. It's all the classics like the ABC song, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Old MacDonald, etc. And the little book is neat for the parents to read to learn a little bit about the history/meaning behind the songs.
We have a set with all the regular kids songs for the car but DD also likes They Might Be Giants kids music - check it out on u tube, which I find a lot more easy to listen to than the regular stuff.
Thank, ladies!!! Huge help. I've listened to some of the elizabeth mitchell snippets and they sound pretty awesome. I'll check out the other suggestions! Thanks again!

I bought this cd/book combo when Warner was a baby https://www.amazon.com/Humpty-Who-Course-Nursery-Rhymes/dp/0761143688

We listen to Sesame Street, the Muppets, and some Disney music. I can't handle a lot of kids music, but those are tolerable.
We also listen to a lot of regular music on the radio, and M seems to like it as much as the kids music.
