3rd Trimester

do you have hemorrhoids?

I'm sure some of my fellow bumbies are suffering these same ailments... If so, how are you coping??

I'm 33 weeks and they've just gotten worse/bigger/more uncomfortable. My midwife has given me a prescription foam that is not seeming to work and I've tried prep H and witch hazel and stuff like that too. Does anyone have any other advice? I'm really nervous about going into labor with these things - talk about adding pain to misery!

Re: do you have hemorrhoids?

  • I'm 25 weeks and I already have them! Ughhh! I'm trying preventive methods of using baby wipes instead of toilet paper, and then using tuck pads to do a second wipe, and finally using some tucks cream or prep H as an ointment after after bathroom visit. So far it seems to help. What I found if you use the stuff once they surface it doesn't help much, but using every occasion seems to keep the worst of it at bay.

  • I'm using Tucks pads and a prescription lidocaine/hydrocortisone cream. But nothing really makes them better... I saw a proctologist and he told me that there's basically nothing you can do for the external hemmies until after the baby comes. So I'm trying not to worry about them too much.

This...and, if you keep the tucks pads in the fridge, it helps A LOT!! I got them VERY early on in this pregnancy, and I have been dealing with them the whole time. Also, add some colace (or store brand) every night. That has really helped me...I like the Target brand, and my cousin that just had a baby said that Meijer brand (if you have a Meijer) is really good.

This. I do not have them but I was very constipated in 1st and 2nd tri and my Doc said to take Colace once a day 100mg before bed. So I take one with my prenatal pill and I have not been constipated at all. Colace helps me go sometimes 2x in one day! Hope you feel better:)

  • Do I have hemorrhoids....HA!!! I have MASSIVE hemorrhoids! Oh my GOODNESS! SOOO uncomfortable! Eat LOTS of fiber!! Drink LOTS of water!  Fill your tub with about 2 inches of pretty warm water and sit in that for a little while, it really helps! I completely stopped picking anything up off the floor one week and had to sit down sooo carefully  that DH actually asked, is Logan really getting that big....and I responded...NO My Hemorrhoids are that big!!

  • I have them. Some days they are okay and some days it is really really uncomfortable. I take colace at night and use tucks pads.

I am going to have them banded after the baby if they're still there- which they probably will be because I've already had them a couple months now :(

  • No, thank God. Fingers crossed I avoid them for the rest of this pregnancy!

  • I got them with DD and they never went away. However, between having her and getting pregnant this time, they were pretty non-eventful. Didn't itch, didn't hurt.

Early in the 2nd trimester, they itched SO FREAKING BAD!  Now they seem to have calmed down and only itch every once in awhile.

  • sounds like we are all in the same boat.... pregnancy sure isn't glamorous is it?! haha. I'm going to try the Colace... is that like a stool softener?
  • Welcome to pregnancy! I've had hemorrhoids since my teens, and am now in my thirties and 30 weeks pregnant.  They're nasty little buggers.  My advice is to do what PP's have suggested to help with the symptoms, but in the case of hemmies, an ounce of prevention really does equal a pound of cure-ish.  I take 2 vitagummies fiber gummies a day, thats equals 20 grams of fiber right there, then I eat at least one serving of fiber one cereal every morning, because that gives me a net fiber intake of 40 grams (10 grams over daily reccomended value).  I do a lot of salads to add to that.  Then I drink 72 ounces of water/day minimum.  I no longer need any colace, metamucil, or senekot, and have had only 2 hemmie flare ups this entire pregnancy.  Good luck with it!
