If DD were having problems with her formula....

what would that look like?  She occasionally is a tad cranky after she eats but it is not every feeding and I usually can rock or jiggle her into submission.  I am just curious because the lady at infant massage suggested we talk to the pediatrician and I am not sure why.

Re: If DD were having problems with her formula....

  • If she were having a problem, she'd probably be very gassy, spitting up ALL the time, arch her back, cry every time she ate, etc.?You'd be able to tell if she were uncomfy or in pain. ?

I'd ask her why she feels you should speak to your pedi.?

  • Maddie was having some trouble with her formula.  Long story short, I stopped breastfeeding on Wednesday.  She vomitted each day after that (Thurs, Fri, Sat) and was not sleeping as well as she had been.  The vomitting wasnt with every feeding, just one or two, but it still was nerve wracking b/c it was an entire feeding that she was giving back to me not just some spit up.  She also was having trouble with taking the formula (which she had previously taken ok in the hospital and small amounts at home).  She would fuss while eating and just didn't seem right to me - mother's intuition I guess.  Since I had signed up with Similac when I was pregnant, they had sent me samples - one can of regular, and one can of soy.  I decided to try the soy after she threw up the entire feeding yesterday morning.  All day and night yesterday she got soy formula.  She took it very nicely, didn't throw up at all, and slept MUCH better.  She was easier to settle down, didn't fuss as much, and just seemed better to me.  I'm going to continue to give her the soy for a few days and see if it keeps up.  Hope that makes sense and maybe even helps :-)
  • Avery had trouble with her first formula. She threw up after almost every feeding. She also pooped with every feeding and really struggled with it. Her poops were green in color, chunky and HORRIBLY smelly. Sorry if that is TMI. She also fussed a lot while eating.

Once we switched to Alimentum, she went to pooping 1x/day or every other day and she doesn't struggle with them, they are yellow, smooth and don't smell nearly as bad. And she doesn't throw up anymore either.

  • DS had trouble with his formula. He spit up constantly and had runny poop almost every diaper. He was also very cranky and did not sleep well at all.  If it would make you feel better talk to the pedi. It can't hurt and it will put your mind at ease.
