Morning sickness helpers?

This pregnancy my m/s is pretty much all day. No vomiting but constant nausea. So I need some ideas from m/s veterans. What worked for you if anything to help reduce it? My productivity sucks because I just want to lay around all day!

  • this is going to sound silly-

but eating foods with potassium helps morning sickness.

So try a banana. or blend one up in a smoothie if it helps getting it down easier.

Thanks, I hadn't heard this one. A smoothie kinda sounds good and we have bananas.

  • Protein - a few nuts, grilled cheese, yoghurt, an egg etc - really helped me this time.  Ginger didn't do a thing.

YES. I was like that - constant nausea, but no vomiting. You almost wish you could vomit just to stop feeling sick.

Try eating just a tiny bit of something very often. A saltine cracker, a slice of turkey, a half sandwich, spoonfuls of yogurt. Eat something before bed (I know, it's weird, but it helps). I would have a little cup of peanuts by the bed and when I woke up at 3am I would have 5-10 nuts. It may be hard because you're too sick to want anything, but even just a little something helps.

The key is to not let your stomach be totally empty. Drink LOTS of water. Bananas and protein help. I hope it doesn't last long!

  • Ugh. That's how I was when pregnant. Week 6-14 I was queasy all.day.long but never threw up. I feel for you!

I found sucking hard candies helped me- in particular, peppermint ones or sour (like jolly ranchers) and making sure I always had a bit of food in my belly.

I hope it goes away soon!

  • I tried EVERYTHING and was absolutely miserable until I finally got my prescription for Zofran filled. I've tried going off of it recently and I'm still experiencing morning sickness. For me, nothing but medication has worked.

ETA: I missed the part where you said you weren't actually vomiting. I've had tons of actual vomiting, so I don't know if Zofran works for just the feeling of nausea.

  • zofran worked wonders for me. It made my nausea non existent. I was so nauseous I couldnt even stand water so I gave in. I took it my entire pregnancy and gave birth to a healthy baby boy in July. Good luck!

  • Thanks guys.  I am going to try to get some more protein in me, and banana and some of your other ideas.  I ate a banana a couple hours ago and actually the nausea has subsided so I don't know if it's coincidental or not, but I like it!  We'll see tomorrow.

  • If I ate a bowl of cereal or a bagel with cream cheese and a banana, it helped to hold off the morning sickness a bit.  Then when I got to work, mid-morning apple slices and cheddar cheese was my go to snack that usually made me feel much better.  I agree about the protein - it was key for me, but beef, chicken and fish (OMG, still cannot eat it to this day), made it worse.  Avocados/guacamole was also a go to snack.

  • I am so happy to see this post! I had almost no morning sickness with Ian, but it's 24/7 with this baby. Gah. Also, if I eat anything sweet, I throw up. Really, baby? I have found that it's better if I try to eat a lot of small things during the day. Sipping raspberry tea will sometimes take the edge off, too. I'll try the bananas next.

  • I had awful morning sickness/nausea/vomiting with both my babies, but much worse with my daughter. With my son, Big Red gum was a lifesaver. I always had an awful taste in my mouth esp after eating and this helped, also helped my nausea.

With my daughter I had to take meds or I would have ended up in the hospital. My on didn't like zofran bc of the expense so had me use unisom and b6 2-3x a day. I don't remember the actual doses but it's been used for decades and it helped. It didn't quell the nausea 100% but enough do I could eat and hold food down.

Hope you feel better soon. M/S sucks.

  • It helped me to have some hard candy to suck on. I liked either sour or sweet, not mint. I think gum actually made it worse.

  • I lived off of hard candy, crackers, slurpees and mint ice cream.

And not letting myself get hungry.

  • Zofran and B12. Also greasy/salty foods, sour candies, protein, potassium.

  • Those preggy pop drops really helped me (hard candy). They made my nausea subside long enough for me to eat something substantial.
