I need ideas on how to keep our house smelling good. We are renting out our house and there will be possible showings during the day so warming something on the stove probably isn't a good idea. I've put carpet powder and vacuumed but I feel like that might be too much if I do that all the time. I know things like keeping the litter box cleaned, house cleaned and vacuumed all helps but what are some other things I can do that are subtle?
Re: NBR:Ways to keep house smelling good?
We buy (in the fall) the cinnamon brooms/wreaths that you find at HEB. We love the smell and one in an open area is enough for the whole house (for us).
I also have a few bath and body works wall plug ins that were gifts that are okay.
"The House We Built."
A journey of building the dream.
I was also going to recommend scentsy. There should be plenty of scents to choose from that aren't too overwhelming. My brother has one and said he'll turn it on for a few hours, turn it off, and it will leave the house smelling good for a day or more. Hopefully that way you could turn it on in the evenings and off before bed and then your house will smell good during the day.
This is what our realtor recommended we do. He said it reminds people of something yummy baking in the oven.
As much as I hate chemicals and plug ins (fire hazard) etc, there's a 2 scent Glade one that everyone loved in the last 2 houses we sold. Vanilla and Cookie or something. They didn't hurt my head like the others but still had that fresh warm cookies thing going on.
You can also set yourself up for success by Febreezing theshit out of everything just as you're about to leave the house for a couple hours one day. Start at one corner and spray systematically so the last thing you do is close the front door. When you get home, open some doors and windows to clear out any remaining overwhelming febreezy smell.
I would also suggest, that with the weather is cool and dry, open the windows and really air it out.
We also put a pot of hot water on the stove (back burner) with a couple of cinnamon sticks and apple slices (you can also add orange peel) and let it simmer for an hour or so. This adds a really pleasant something-yummy-is-cooking scent but doesn't heat up the house.
