Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Does anyone else's LO's still hate to be changed/dressed?

It's like i'm putting them through torture!! Changing their diaper is so hard because they scream bloody murder and twist and turn all over the place. They aren't interested in a new toy or anything else for very long. Dressing them is just as bad.

Ugh....least favorite part of being a mom. I feel like i am being rough with them when i try to hold them down to finish their diaper change. It's worse when they have Poop!! It's all over the place if i don't hold them down.

When does this get better? I've tried dressing them on the floor which does help but it takes forever with 2 and i have to get out in the morning to drop them off and go to work.

Thanks!

  • DS, for some reason, doesn't like having his arms put in or taken out of clothes.  He's fine with everything else, but when we get to that part (regardless if it's a onesie, sleeper, sweater, whatever) he starts to tremble, cry, and whimper!

  • Mine goes in and out of phases where she does that.  The car seat is the worst.  I think the best you can do it try your best to remain calm and silent and do as much as you can to not give them attention for doing this.  Just do it, get it done, and move on with out coddling or trying to reason with them.

  • We went through this phase, and I feel like it lasted a good 3 months. DS has no issues being changed now. It's a total 180 - he actually goes in his room and lays on the floor, ready to go. Hang in there, I know it sucks and I can only imagine it with 2!
  • You are not alone. DD has gone through this phase a few times. It keeps getting harder because she gets harder and harder to hold down. Agree with PP. Just try not to get sucked in. Get it done as quickly and calmly as possible and move on.

OMG i forgot about the carseat..DS is the worst with this as well. I so can't wait until this phase is over. Other that this my little ones are great kids :)

    thanks ladies!!

  • haha, DD is now not cool with being dressed because she want's to do it herself!  She gets pissy about having her diaper changed because she wants to say how she'll lay on the pad: backwards, upside down, you get the picture!

  • Yep... i let ds stand while i change his diaper.  it is easier and faster than the fight over a typical change.
