Multiples

Does it get better?

I am 8 weeks with twins.  I've had nausea and vomiting since 10 dpo and almost incapacitating fatigue starting at about 6 weeks.  I have 2 other children and have really been looking forward to the second trimester because I remember how much better things get then.   I've been a little worried, though, whether the 2 tri. will give me relief since it's twins.  With multiples, did you get a little bit of a "breather" where you felt good in the 2 nd trimester?  I know I'll be pretty miserable again in the third, but if I'm going to be this exhausted for another 30 weeks, I want to mentally prepare myself :)

Re: Does it get better?

  • I just posted a similar question, I'm almost 16 weeks and utterly exhausted every day. We'll see what others say though!

  • I felt much better around 18 weeks....but it didn't last as long as I would have liked.  We're all different and hopefully you'll feel better soon.  FWIW, I knew it was twins when my betas were sky high and at 5 weeks I was falling asleep at 5:30 PM.  Eek!

  • I was SO exhausted that I barely left the house for the first 12 weeks! I remember thinking how I was going to go months longer! I felt much better around 16-17 weeks. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! Mine flew by once I was in the second trimester! : )

  • It got better for me in the 2nd tri and then worse again in 3rd. Hang in there!

  • I definitely felt less exhausted in the second tri and would probably stil be feeling okay (except for cervix issues/bed rest) if it weren't for this stupid cold that I can't kick!

  • I used to think about pulling over on the way home from work in 1st trimester to take a nap.  When I did get home, I would eat dinner and go to bed.  It got much better for the whole 2nd tri but bad again at the end of 3rd.

  • I'm odd and the 1st tri with twins was easier than 1st tri with my singleton. *shrug* That being said, almost all of the 2nd tri has been kind of miserable... starting with sciatica and now I'm just large and uncomfortable.
  • It DOES get better. I still get nauseous at times, constipation is killing me, heartburn isn't fun either but I have more energy and I get to enjoy this big 7 month belly at only 19 weeks! My spirits feel higher too because each week I get closer to meeting my ID boys! I also enjoy the thumps and bumps they provide me to remind me they are there. Stay positive.

  • I had nausea around 4 weeks with my twins and HEG starting around 7 weeks.  I never had fatigue.  My SIL, however, had severe fatigue with her twins but now morning sickness at all.
  • I felt a bit less exhausted during the second tri but I had problems with some of my other symptoms--dizziness, lots of back issues, etc., so overall the second tri was not the walk in the park that a lot of my singleton-mom friends had promised!

  • It did not get easier for me.  I was extremely nauseated my entire pregnancy, threw up everyday.. even the day of my c/s.  I was really tired and felt good until about 28 weeks and then became very uncomfortable, so I was completely miserable from then until the end.  Sorry to not give any positives, but obviously all the pain and suffering is worth it.
  • I am 32 weeks pregnant with twins. I have been on bed rest since 26 weeks...not fun. I had very bad morning sickness until about week 16 when it started to taper off some but it lasted into the 22nd week. At about week 17 I developed very bad carpal tunnel that would keep me up all night. That went away when I got put on bed rest until the last couple of nights. I am very tired now but there were a couple of weeks where I felt good. My biggest advice is to get everything done early, I thought I was, never dreamed bed rest would come so early. The stretching feeling and the inability to breathe are tough but it will be worth it. We are praying I can hang in there for a few more weeks b/c at 26 weeks I was already dilated. I hope you are feeling better soon!

  • I'm just about 20 weeks with twin boys. I still get more tired than I did pre-preg, but not to the extent of the 1st tri. I haven't had much symptoms the last few weeks (not a huge appetite, not nauseous, no real cravings, not hormonal), but my back occasionally hurts if I don't sit against pillows and sometimes have some pains when I get up from sitting for a long period. But it does get better!!! I felt better by 11 weeks, and then even better by 14 weeks. HTH

  • I felt absolutely terrible for the first 14 or 15 weeks. The nausea was especially intense and I was on Zofran from 6 weeks on. By about 16/17 weeks I was feeling marginally better, with some nauseous days - but nothing compared to the first tri. I was able to stop taking the Zofran even and really started to enjoy my pregnancy at that time. Hope you get some relief soon! GL!

  • I was extremely sick from 6 weeks until exactly 13 weeks on the dot. I threw up a ton the last day (sorry TMI) and then the very next day It stopped.  2nd tri was wayy better but definitely drink lots of water because i still would get light headed when out sometimes.

  • I'm in a somewhat similar situation - I have two singletons and am pg with twins.  I had bad morning sickness/exhaustion until about 16 wks, felt good for about 2 wks and have been tired ever since.  For me, it was like I skipped the 2nd trimester and went straight into the 3rd - aches, pains, waddling, etc.

I had a wonderful 2nd trimester with my DD1, but didn't with DD2 - was tired all the way through.

  • I have a singleton and twins.   My morning sickness was worse with the twins, but didn't last as long.    I did feel okay for a little while with the twins (around 15 weeks) but hit the wall at 28 weeks or so and was pretty tired and uncomfortable after that.   But I'll say that any discomfort later on in the twin pregnancy was nowhere near as bad as puking every day.  Hang in there.
