I've noticed some chatter on here about STDs the last few days and I wanted to let you all know that even though DH is not a MD he does work closely with some of the best GYNs in the world in his daily work. One of his closest work-doctor - "friends" is also a world-renowned RE who has done tons of research and is regularly published on advancements in IVF, etc. etc. etc.
Well, he says that he believes that even though your typical woman finds the idea of having Chlamydia to be scary or distasteful it should probably be the first test she has done when TTC. He thinks that if your doctor (or your friend's doctor) hasn't ordered one yet you should be asking for a Chlamydia test. According to him, the number of women who have Chlamydia (and other STDs) and don't know it is STARTLING and because of the stigma attached are putting off regular STD tests. It's totally treatable!
So, we need to come out of the closet with the stigmas and start telling our girlfriends to get tested. I asked my GYN for it even though I was uneasy about the idea of it (I actually got irrationally mad at DH the first time he mentioned this type of thing to me, which is RIDICULOUS). I made sure to tell my friends that they should be asking about it too. Unless you and your partner were some sort of perfect virgins, this is an issue that sexually active adults face.
Let's beat down the stigma.
