When you are alone with your LO...how do you shower?!?!?!

Ok, possibly stupid question here...right now my DH is home and my Mom has been here all week...so I have had time for myself and able to shower, etc without much thought...someone is always around to watch the LO.

Well, Monday I'm on my own...and I just realized that I have no idea what I am supposed to do with him so I can shower!  I was thinking I could leave him in his swing and take a quick shower while he naps...or move his bouncy seat into our bathroom....

What are you guys doing?  Such a small thing, I shouldnt be freaking out about it, but for some reason I am!!

  • Bouncer in the bathroom with me, typically. Asleep or awake.

  • I wait until she is napping well in her swing and then take a quick shower. She is always asleep when I get out, but I never take longer than 15 minutes
  • Oh I just noticed your pic there.. I ride jumpers also. Are you planning on starting up again? If so when? I am eight weeks pp and am ready to Ride again but idk what I would do with LO!
  • I just leave him in his crib or pack n play to take a super quick shower. It takes about 5 minutes and if he starts to cry I know it won't be for very long. If I need to shave or wash my hair, I run a full bath and take a bath instead, so I can hear him on the monitor if he gets upset and go to him. I also time it for his afternoon nap, which is his longest one.

  • I did take a quick 5 minutes shower alone with LO maybe twice.  Once, I was covered in poop.  She was awake and I put her in her crib.  I figured it wasn't worse than when we are sleeping at night.  I had the monitor on and I could hear everything.  The second time, I put the bouncer in the bathroom and took a bath.  I didn't like the fact that the bathroom got hotter than the rest of the house.  I was afraid for her to get cold when I was done and out of the bathroom.

  • We have a swing in the doorway. LO loves the sound of the fan and hair dryer.

  • I try to wait until both girls are asleep - DD1 in her crib, DD2 in the swing - and just make it quick. If I can't wait, DD1 plays in her crib with some toys or books and DD2 either is in the swing or bouncy seat in the bathroom.

  • I used to roll the bassinet into the bathroom but lately I've been bringing DS in with his bouncy seat. He is happy and content and I get my shower :)

  • I put him in the bouncy seat in the bathroom with me sometimes.  If he is asleep somewhere else I will leave him where he is and just try to hurry in the shower.  Sometimes I don't get a shower at all though.  Each day is different!

  • When I put her for her first or second nap of the day, I shower. She's in her cradle in our bedroom, close to the bathroom, but I know she's fine. Actually, in the two weeks she's been alive, I've showered everyday!

  • Her room is across from the bathroom, so I usually wait till she's napping in her swing then I take a shower.

  • Like others, I put dd in the bouncy seat in the bathroom with me.  She plays with her toys and I figure the steam helps her congestion.

I have horses too! I board at my house so LO has met the horses already. I plan to put LO in the pnp in the ring and see how that goes. I'm only 2 weeks pp so I have a while yet. ;) I put LO in the bassinet or crib while he sleeps to shower, works fine!

  • I put DD in her bouncy seat and bring her in the bathroom.  She loves the sound of the fan and shower, so she lets me shower as long as I need to.  She doesn't cry until I get out.

  • Today was the first shower I took where DS was awake in his bouncy seat in the bathroom with me I think he liked the noise of the fan and the shower. All other times he's been napping, I only got out once to a crying baby.

  • I prefer to put DD in her RnP in the doorway of the bathroom while I shower.  That way she doesn't overheat from the steam, but I can hear her if she needs me.  I actually prefer to shower while she's awake but just starting to get sleepy before her first morning nap.  The sound of the shower is calming to her and once in a while she'll fall asleep on her own.  It's worked out a lot better than I expected.

  • Propped up on the boppy on the bathroom rug, within arm's reach to pop the paci back in if necessary.
  • I agree with PPs.  If LO shows no signs of being drowsy, she gets put in the bouncer in the bathroom, but if she is drowsy I can usually put her back down for a nap before the day really begins!

  • With my first if he was sleeping in his crib I would just take a quick shower then. If he was awake I would just bring the bouncer in the bathroom. Now that I have two I plan on showering before DH leaves for work.

  • We leave the rock n play in the bathroom.  My LO loves the sound of running water so I breastfeed him and get him really relaxed around 9:30am, when his first nap is, and then hop into the warm, steamy shower and he falls asleep.  I take looong showers and just keep popping my head out to make sure he is ok.  When I turn off the water, I turn on the fan, turn on the baby monitor and he finishes his nap in the bathroom while I get dressed, throw in the laundry, dry my hair, etc.  Its great!

  • If she's already napping, she's in her crib, and I leave her in there.  If she's awake and I need to shower to go somewhere or something, car seat in the bathroom.  We have two dogs, so I don't leave them all unattended (like if she's in her swing).

  • I try to do it while she's napping in the bouncer or in her swing.  Sometimes while she's awake in her bouncer if absolutely necessary.  I don't bother bringing the bouncer into the bathroom--our house has good acoustics and I leave all doors open so I can hear her from anywhere on the 1st or 2nd floor.  She's usually in the next room over (my office) anyway.  As long as she's calm I don't mind being out of the room from her for 10 minutes or so as long as she's strapped in and there are no blankets or anything that could cover up her face.
  • Not a dumb question at all! I asked the same thing on SAHM a couple of weeks ago. :)

I take her into the restroom with me in her car seat. She is usually asleep, but if she happens to wake up in the middle of the shower then I can't do much. I try to take no longer than 8 to 10 minutes though.

I have noticed that DD has this ability to "know" when I'm eating, going to the restroom, cooking or showering. She will be quiet as an angel when I'm just sitting with her but if I try to get up and do something vital then she decides that that is the time to have the meltdown. lol
