Childless not by choice

How long ago did you hit the end of the road?

Or do you feel you are getting there now?  When did you know you would be CFNBC?

I'm curious as to how long it has been for everyone here.  We hit the end of the road July 2008.

Re: How long ago did you hit the end of the road?

  • ours was two weeks ago...November 2011.  It is still a struggle but we have let it go. No medical reason. It just isn't happening for us.  2 years is enough. I have so much respect for those who keep going.  They are stronger than I ever can imagine of being.

  • When I turned 35...in 2009. It was my self-emposed stopping point. In reality we had stopped trying with medicinal interventions in 2005 so it would have taken a miracle for me to get pregnant between 2005 and 2009.
  • For us it was last April. We'd tried for 3.5 years and in March failed IVF #2. We went to therapy for a month or so to help guide us in the decision making process and quickly realized we both were done.

We'd lost 4 babies to miscarriage (all to chrom abnormalities) and 2 rounds of IVF with PGD testing produced only chrom abnormal embryos.

We were drained emotionally and had no hope of having a baby that wasn't chrom abnormal so the decision was quite obvious - the therapy was more to help us accept and process it.

  • I thought we had hit the end of the road several times before what (I think...) will be the final time, which was this July.  We've pretty much known it was coming since 2009 though.

  • We've known for awhile but we both have moments of stupid hope.

Right now I'm in the knowing it's over crowd and my husband is still trying to believe it will happen.

I'm really ready for us to both be on the same page on this one. The sooner the better.

Problem is we are unexplained IF and loss. So there is still the hope of "well we could get pregnant on our own" that comes with unexplained IF but if we were to have another loss I would put my foot down for good because there are only so many times I'm willing to go through that.

Fuuck TTC - I'm moving on.

"Ew. I've read all of two posts from you, and you stink like rotting garbage."
  • I had a m/c in July of this year and that was the end point for us. At that point, we had been TTC for 2 1/2 years, had gone through 3 IUIs, 2 OE IVFs, and 2 DE IVFs. We were in a guarantee program for DE. We waited a couple of months to make sure we were making the right decision to stop trying and then asked for and received our money back.
