For those of you who have been on bed rest...

I was wondering exactly what "moderate" bedrest means?

What kind of physical activity can you or did you still do?

Also, While in bed did you have to lay the whole time on you left side or could you lay /sit with your feet up to use a laptop and stuff?

Re: For those of you who have been on bed rest...

  • I just got put on moderate bed rest, as of yesterday. I was told that I can get up out of bed/couch to shower, use the bathroom, make a sandwich (not cook) and try to limit stairs. Basically they don't want me standing or sitting b/c that puts pressure on the cervix. So no, I'm not confined to strictly laying on my left side. Basically, just have to lay down in any comfortable position.

Hopefully you can dodge the bullet! Good luck!

These were my orders as well.  I mostly sat reclined in my glider chair all day.

  • When I was initially placed on moderate bed rest, it meant I could go up and down the stairs once during the day, take a shower, and get up to go the bathroom.  I could get up for water and food but that was about it- no standing in the kitchen to cook.

  • I am on more strict bed rest, but this is an excellent question for your Dr., as everyone's situation is different. GL!

  • I was supposed to lay in bed the entire time, I went downstairs every morning and spent the day on the couch then back upstairs for bed.
  • It depends why your on bedrest, so it is best to ask your doc these questions.

I was fortunate not to have to be on bedrest when pg with twins. I am now 33 weeks pg with a singleton. I've been on modified bedrest for 2 weeks for low amniotic fluid. I am allowed to be up and have normal activity for 6 hours a day. The other 18 hours I must be laying on my left side. If it's a cervix issue or to prevent PTL, these requirements would be much different, KWIM?
