Holy crap--did it work!?

I asked a couple days ago if I should wait until after our vaca in Dec to start sleep training--thinking it would take a couple weeks of bedtime drama. DH and I decided to start now, this is only night 3 and DS went to sleep on his own, no crying, not even fussing!

DS had figured out that he could fall asleep with the boob and wake up every hour or every two and that the boob was open for business all night. Last night, only night 2 mind you, he only woke up to eat twice! He still woke up every hour but fussed for only a minute or two and fell asleep on his own! I totally don't mind two night feedings, I would actually miss our middle of the night nursings.

I cried the first night I let him cry, he cried for a total of 5 minutes before falling asleep but it felt like an eternity to me! I know some books call for 5-10-30 min intervals but I couldn't, I did 1 min then 3 lol but that's all it took!

P.S. Please don't tell my AP ladies that I let my kid CIO for 5 minutes or they'll lynch me Stick out tongue

  • It sounds like he was ready. It took us 4 nights to get some real progress, but it's been just lovely to just put him in the crib and have him roll over and go to sleep.

I'm trying to put some effort into spacing night feedings again... I find this part much more exhausting that the going to bed part was.

Yeah, we aren't good at that.  But she usually doesn't wake up too many times a night.  There always seems to be a reason.  Cold, stuffy nose, need a pacifier. The key is having my husband go in when it'snot food time.

Same here. I decided to space the feedings every three hours at least--he was eating every hour since we were bedsharing, I do miss my little bug in bed with me :( anywho, last night he went to bed at 8:30 woke up at 11:30 I let him nurse, after that he woke up every hour and I thought we were going to have a battle but he fell asleep on his own after a min of fussing so the next time he was really crying I nursed him at 3am then again same thing he woke up, fussed, fell asleep, woke up at 8am. So I'm thinking as long as he's not screaming bloody murder the all night milk buffet is closed!

  • hooray for successful sleep training! we started about a week ago and went from having a babe that was up every 90 min to nurse to sleep, to now having a babe who sleeps from 8-7.  she will wake once or twice a night still, but puts herself back to sleep in under 5 minutes.  i think we just lucked out with her being ready for it too.  here's hoping it all keeps working :)

  • Yay!!!

I couldn't do the suggested intervals either.  I did like 1-3-5, then 2-3-5, then finally 3-5-7.

  • That's awesome - it really does sound like he was ready!  Glad it went so well for you!
