Maternity leave

I am sitting her trying to figure out my maternity leave and it is making me sad to realize that I am not going to be able to take nearly as much time off with this baby as I did with Evie.

I took 4 months off with Evie and I'll be lucky to be able to have 2 months this time.  We just can't afford for me to be out that long this time around. 

I am so jealous that my Canadian sister in law got a YEAR paid maternity leave for each of her kids.

    I'm worried about that too when the time comes.  With my last maternity leave I was able to use half FMLA/unpaid and then half of each pay period with PTO, to cover our benefits and also have a little bit of $ come in each pay period, would you be able to do that to extend it a little bit?  We get paid every 2 weeks so week one I would do 3 FMLA days, 2 vacation/sick, and then the next week 4 FMLA and then 3 vacation/sick.

    I did something similiar to Cooper. Used like 26 hours of leave each pay period (which is two weeks) and the rest was LWOP. Leading up to me being out, we  saved money for three mortgage payments.

    At our company FMLA runs concurrently with PTO. You can't take unpaid leave if you have vacation/sick time. Can you go back at 8 weeks and work part-time for a few weeks?

    That's really hard, though. Lack of leave is one of the reasons I am hesitating to have another child, or have another before L turns 2.

    DH's best friend lives in Canada, and he and his wife had a baby in July.  I'm super jealous of all her (and his) time off!

    I guess STD is not an option for you at this point? I We would have SOL without mine, especially since J came almost 7 weeks early!
