Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Best new/mom parent gift you received?

Hi ladies!! Congratulations on all your lovely new babies! My best friend is currently being induced and I am trying to get some ideas for her. I have already bought so much for the baby, honestly its a little obscene. Lol. So I want to really focus on her.

Food: I've been cooking at her house since she went on bedrest a few weeks ago. I have a few meals planned out, but in all honesty her mom is a phenom in the kitchen and has pretty much got that handled. Although I might get a deli tray and rolls etc.  people never think of lunches!

Her dh and my dh are quite close. Any ideas for him? I'm also going to bake/pick up some fancy cupcakes to the hospital. They are both sugar junkies!!!

Thanks do much for your input!!

  • Food, Food and more Food!! That is amazing that you are doing so much! Not having to worry about that was such a load off. You could bring over bagels so they can freeze them or later. Having a bunch of deli meat is great to have a lot of. I think I had a sandwich for lunch the first 3 weeks because it was so easy to make. Does your friend drink wine? Maybe a bottle of her favorite wine (to drink in moderation of course :)) As for DH- maybe some beer?

  • My favorite thing that my parents did was ask me if I needed anything at the grocery store and they picked up the things for me.  I always pay them for the items, but it is so nice not having to run out to the store for milk, bread, toilet paper, etc with a baby.

  • Hey Kate, you're so sweet to be doing all this for your friend... I'm sure she'll appreciate it! :) For me, it'd be house cleaning. That way I could focus on the baby and not worry about the house, especially with a lot of visitors.

  • My neighbor volunteered to help clean my house.  That was the last thing I felt like doing when I got home, but that didn't stop the bathrooms from getting nasty.  It was nice to not have to worry about it for a while...

  • If food is already covered than def household chores or upkeep.

our neighbours watered our plants and cut the grass one day. I had a friend do a load of laundry, towels and sheets. Another friend walked our dog one day and bright over a bag of dog food, toilet paper and dishwasher soap... All things we would hate to run out of and grab.

  • I definitely agree with PP's about doing household chores.  Lots of people come over wanting to love on the new baby, but few actually offer to help out the new mom.  Maybe make it fun by giving her "gift certificates" she can redeem from you for a clean bathroom, 2 loads of laundry, an errand run, etc.  That would be really nice.

If you're looking for a tangible gift, I would look on Etsy.  There's lots of neat handmade gifts on there your friend might like.  As a push gift, my husband got me a personalized necklace with my daughter's name and birth stats.  It was about $50 but there are some cheaper but similar necklaces as well (like this one).

It's so nice that you want to do this for your friend!  I hope she has a quick induction and easy delivery!

I agree... FOOD was the best thing people brought.

For the dad, perhaps a "Team Dad" shirt or a "New Dad 2011" or something?  My DH loved his...
