Re: Goodfellow AFB

  • I currently live in San Angelo while my husband is stationed at Goodfellow. I would recommend you look at the on base housing because it is extremely difficult to find a good apartment available on short notice. If you're looking at houses you may have better luck, luckily here rent is pretty cheap. Good luck finding a place.

And specifics Casa Rio has good management and they give military discount for the deposit and usually waive the application fee, but they're old.

I heard the Glades was a nice place to live, but I also have a friend whose car was stolen right out of their parking lot.

  • We're hoping for base housing. We are currently at Wright Patterson in the new housing, and the Goodfellow housing looks new too so we're hoping for that! Is there anything to do in San Angelo? lol I have heard it's awful.

  • Haha well there are a lot of bars and thats about all.  There is a fine arts museum, a bordello museum, planetarium, and a few other things but it does get old after a bit. I'd say that when you get here check with AFRC they'll be a lot better about knowing everything there is to do.
  • There is no longer on-base base housing (or soon will not exist)...it is all contracted off-base, if that is a concern for you. The off-base housing is really nice, but there is a limited amount, thus a long waiting list. I actually don't think you qualify for it unless you have kids. There are plenty of rental homes in the San Angelo area, within E-4 to E-6 budgets. It just depends on what you want to spend and where you want to live.

We are stationed here as permanent party, so we bought a home and love it and the neighborhood. If you are a student here, I would recommend renting. There are a lot of apartment complexes in town that appear to be really nice.

Check out some local real estate companies for rental properties/homes for sale, or apartments for rent. Good luck!

  • Oh and the area is pretty good if you like outdoorsy stuff. Shopping is mediocre, but Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin are all within 3-4 hour drives and make for really great long weekend trips.
