What kind of wrap/sling for a summer baby?

I am due May 29th with our first.  I love the idea of baby-wearing, but am not sure of the right choice for a summer baby.  We will be getting some sort of ss carrier (Ergo, Beco, etc), but what about recs for a wrap or sling?  Will the Moby be too hot for outside wearing?  Are there any great websites that compare different wraps/slings?

Thanks!

  • We went with the Baby K'tan Breeze because most of our wearing is during the summer.  I love the K'tan for it's simplicity, and the breeze does keep my little furnace of a baby cooler than the regular fabric.

I'm not a huge fan of SSCs for newborns because their structure doesn't allow them to mold to a little one's body the way other carriers do.  Then if you get something like an Ergo with an infant insert it'll get pretty hot.

Mobys do get hot.  A good hybrid warp is a Wrapsody Breeze.  Good wovens for the summer are Vatanai and BB-Slen.

For a ring sling you could always go with a linen or any light-weight, light-colored fabric.

  • The Moby was too hot to use with my June baby very much. The K'Tan (regular, not breeze) was cooler enough for us.

I also like using a sling. Ditto about not loving SSCs for smaller babies, but I love it and couldn't live without it now.

Oh! Almost forgot about the mei tai. That was our first favorite. Not too warm at all and great for little babies.

  • My baby was born in August. I was putting him in the Moby at one week old. As long as he was just dressed in a onesie, he was fine.
