Teachers- How did you tell your students?

I am a high school teacher, some of my students already know, but how do I tell the rest? Did you announce it to the class, I just feel really weird announcing it and I don't know what to say. If they ask I say yes, but only two of my classes know and to my surprise it hasn't really spread. What did you do?

I didn't do a big dramatic announcement..I just said it casually.  I said, "I'll be having a baby in May so you will have a sub for a few weeks until school's out."  They all said AWW and asked a few questions.  They ask me about it here and there but it was no big deal because I didn't really make it into one.

I also teach high school and it just kind of came up.  I had a brain fart moment in class (we were playing a vocab game where you have to call another word to avoid getting your desk hit... long story, but part of the joys of teaching foreign language!) and I kept spacing out getting getting hit.  I laughed and said the baby was sucking all my brain power.  They figured it out and were pretty excited.

I also teach high school and felt really awkward about announcing it to the whole class.  Apparently though, I started showing really early and kids started asking other teachers if I was expecting when I was around 15 weeks.  From there, it pretty much spread.  When I found out we were having a girl, I wrote "It's a girl!" on the board.  I still had one girl not catch on.

One of my kids had the same question.  Funny that they think they would get to know before he would.

DH is a band director, and I teach his Colorguard. We got all the kids in the band room to sit down (theres about 125 of them) and starting talking about upcoming plans for next years band camp.

DH said, "This summer, in June, we're going to be doing something that we've never done before. Its going to be difficult, and its going to require patience and a lot of hard work. But just know that Alicia and I will still be here for you guys no matter what. Just be warned, that there are going to be some changes starting with this big one."

then we waited for someone to ask what was happening and I said, "we're going to have a baby!"

It went over well. We had their attention, and the parents were there, so that way everyone got told at the same time.

I teach high school. I told them I had news for them and that I wanted them to hear it from me first, instead of hearing rumors. I told them I was pregnant and would miss the end of the year, but that I would do everything I could to make their transition smooth.

This is a cute idea!  I actually just posted about telling my students yesterday because I am 22 weeks and most of my kids don't know yet.  I teach grades1-5 music so I teach close to 500 kids in the school.  One of my fourth graders raised her hand in class today and asked if I was planning to have kids soon.  I just smiled and said "Very soon."  and they all figured it out.  They were really excited!  I'm sure now that one class knows, the news will spread pretty quickly now.

One of my students asked the same thing as well. It was all I could do not to crack up right in front of him!

I thought about doing something cute, but ended up just telling them "I have some exciting news to share. I'm going to be having a baby!" They were excited and have been very protective ever since (ie: "Mrs. ________, make sure you don't cook anything over Thanksgiving Break because the baby could get hurt if you get burned or something." -I teach fourth grade :-D).

I was going to tell my 4th graders today. I am really showing. I look. About 6 months pregnant and they still have asked any questions. They were out of control today so I decided not to tell. I know one kid knows because her mom works with me and although I had asked her to let me tell she told her anyway. I have no big plans for a reveal and it will probably just be a conversation so they know what to expect for the end of the year.

I didn't tell them.  I let them figure it out on their own.  I still have kids asking me, and I am definitely showing.

We were talking about the characteristics of life so for their bell work one day I had two ultrasounds from different times and asked what characteristic of life the change in the two pictures showed (growth and development).  Once we had discussed the answers and they were passing their papers in I said "and you know the neatest thing about this?  These pictures are of my baby!"  They were very excited and asked a ton of questions!

I never announced either pregnancy. No one cares as much as you do and frankly, we're fairly insignificant in our students' lives.

Some kids figured it out and news spread quickly.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut

Elementary music teachers are the best! I teach K-5 music to about 430 kids. My last program of the year is about 3 weeks before I'm due....I hope I make it! Luckily, a retired music teacher is my maternity sub and she can do the program if needed.

I really didn't want to just announce it either.  I always put a question at the top of their quizzes, some serious and some silly.  So after I found out it was a boy, I made the question  "Mrs. ___ shoud name her baby boy __________."   They were so excited.  Apparently they knew from the beginning and didn't want to say anything.  Plus, it was funny to read their answers.
