Non-clicky poll

What do you think about leaving your child (in good care) for a weekend or more? I have a friend that has never left either of her LO's (3 years & 11 mo) for even a night. I think a night away is great, a weekend/week is amazing! I miss my kids, but they are usually with my parents/sisters and I know they are getting spoiled to high heaven. I guess I just don't see anything wrong in this. How do you feel?

  • I have left Cooper with my Mom and step dad with no worries.  I always have missed him but sometimes you need a getaway with your SO.

  • I have never left LO, and I don't see myself leaving him anytime soon either.  We do not really have anyone to leave him with who we trust that lives close.  If SIL was in town and was able to watch him, we would probably go somewhere.  But, right now, MIL is really our only option, and that is NOT going to happen.  I have thought about what we would do if we wanted to go on a trip or something without DS, and I think we would probably have to drive 2+ hours and leave him with my aunt or SIL.  Plus, I have not wanted to leave him since I work FT and do not get to spend as much time with him as I would like to.

  • I have no problem with it. We left Jay with my mom for one night. We took a short trip out of town.

I'm sure her 3 yr old will start asking for over nights soon.

  • Are you sure she has someone that could watch them?

We will probably be that same couple two years from now. The only people that I trust watch A overnight live 6+ hours away. It'd be strange to ask them to drive here just to watch my kid so I can go do... whatever. Plus, they'd have to stay at our house and we don't have a guest room so they'd have to sleep in our bed. That just sounds like a whole lot of work.

Once both kids are in big kids beds I will have no problem traveling to Florida, dumping them with their grandparents, and hoping on a cruise with DH. But then again, I'd feel guilty going on vacation without them and would probably take them along and just use the ship's daycare service. Apparently now that I think about it, they aren't sleeping away from us until they go to college :p

  • She slept at my sisters 2 nights when I was in the hospital. I would trust her, or my mom or my Inlaws, and we are lucky they are 15 min away. I guess the oppertunity has not come up for us to go away right now.

But when I go to chicago I am going to say TOODLE LOO!!! lol. Dont get me wrong, I will miss her, and ask H to skype with her so I can see her through out the day. But, I need me some Marsam time too.

  • I can barely handle a date night without little one!! Lol. I think that in a few months I might be able to handle it if he was with my mom overnight. But she is the only one I would trust.

  • We went to a wedding and stayed overnight in the beginning of October. Honestly, it was so much damn work between pumping and waking up when he would normally wake up (in the middle of the night and at the crack of dawn). I vowed never to leave him again until he is weaned from the bewb.

That being said, I would totally go away for a weekend (probably not longer) but only if he were with my mom at my house until he is much older and able to talk. I find myself with major trust issues when it comes to leaving him with anyone else (even though most are more than capable and willing - we have a huge family).

Sorry I should have said I'm not judging her, just stating our differences. She does live across the street from her sister that does daycare for her and her mom lives in town. She just doesn't want to leave them. My SIL is the same way. She totally trusts me to watch her boys (probably cuz I'm a nurse :P ) but she won't leave them alone anywhere overnight.

  • Ive done a night (we do 1-2xs a month actually), but am definitely not ready for a week/weekend yet.

I did 3 nights away from DS when I was in the hospital with DD and it was tough.

I think when the kids are a little older, then I'll be ready for a weekend away. I dont think it's wrong that others might be able to travel without kids, though.
