Hi ladies, so I have not organized photos from my first child who is now 12, since she was about 5.... yes that's right, I am about 7 years behind!!!! (Blame it on working outside the home full-time.) And here comes the next child on the way! I need serious help. For the last 7 years, I have photo boxes full of photos, some of them are somewhat organized by year. I also have 2 computers full of digital photos that are not organized at all. As far as the first 5 years I actually got those photos into albums, but they are ugly, not pretty, not exciting, not labelled... Anyway, I figure I have the next few months to dedicate myself to this project and then the new baby will be here... Then I figure, I will be to busy taking new photos to organize old photos! I need some advice as to how to go about this daunting task! I also think I need ideas of "future systems" so this doesn't happen again. I am open to investing in any organizational tools if need be. How would you go about tackling this? Thank you!

Re: organizing photos! HELP! SOS!

I have no actual system myself beyond having boxes of unorganized pics all over the place and current pics to be put into albums closer at hand - but, in theory, I'd have files on my desktop cross referenced by age and activity and labelled boxes sorted by age.
Someday.

For the digital stuff, I download into files labeled by date. I group those files into month folders, then year folders. Not perfect, but I have some reference to find stuff. For example, I am making calendars for the grandparents, so I can just go to each month's folder and pull a few pics to include on the calendar.
I think dealing with the printed photos is going to be time-consuming no matter what you choose to do. Sort and put into albums or scan and save favorites. Are your boxes sorted at all, or are they completely mixed?
