Trouble TTC

GTKY: Sushi

Hard to believe...but I had my first taste of sushi today.

Interesting...I can't decide if I like it or not.

Had the salmon, cream cheese, avocado thingy. I do love lox and bagels, and it reminded me of that a bit. But not sure I could have that be my whole meal.

So, what's your thought on sushi, and what's your favorite kind?

  • I only like the California rolls or ones with crab as the "meat" of it.  I agree with your thought the first time having it - this can't be a meal!  But it's actually rather filling if you get 6-12 peices!  But I personally prefer to get a meal (like chinese food or japanese habachi) and just share a roll with DH.  That way I can have a little but fill up on more food that I like.

  • I love sushi but can't stand any sushi with cream cheese. I love smoked salmon rolls and spicy tuna but frequently eat eel as well. My favorite roll by far was at a place near my college campus and they called it a King Kong roll. I forget now if it was tuna or salmon but it had tempura banana in it. Yum!

Now I'm drooling over here despite the fact that I'm full from drinking a crapton of soy milk and eating an entire pomegranate in hopes of improving my lining. If I didn't live so far from civilization, I would totally go get some sushi right now.

  • I love sushi but have gotten really picky about where I eat it out now that I'm TTC (no more dive-y sushi places for me). Spicy tuna, Philly rolls, and eel are what we usually order but I adore the special rolls, like Spider a lot too. Mmm mm good!

  • I love it and it's always on my "if this cycle fails" list.

    I'll likely order it tonight.

I usually stick to the tuna and salmon. You'll have to try a running sushi place and sample some other kinds.

These are also fun... it's a rainbow roll.

  • I love sushi!  My favorite is tuna & avocado roll, but I like to try something new almost every time I go.  I love that you can try a little bit of something new, and still have plenty of old favorites in case you don't like it.

I actually went to a sushi place in NYC once where the chef was truly Japanese, and we just told him to bring us whatever he recommended.  I had no idea what half of it was, but everything was amazing!

  • Love it!  My favorite is salmon sashimi but I don't eat it often due to the whole raw fish thing.  I also love the rolls.  It can be addictive once you get into it.

  • Within the last couple of years I have become a sushi lover.

I was like you the first couple of times I tried it...not too sure if I really liked or not.  I think its just kind of an acquired taste since it was so different that what I was used to.

That being said, nowadays I absolutely love it and crave it!  It's hard for me to pick a favorite but I am a big fan the tuna dragon roll at a local establishment.  I really do like the classic california roll too!

  • I love sushi, but I am very picky about it.  I won't eat any raw fish, I can't handle the texture of it.  But tiger eye roll is really good, it has salmon, cream cheese, and jalapeno and it's lightly tempura fried, the wrapped in rice and soy paper. Yum!  My husband has started making California rolls at home, and they are awesome.

  • I like mostly cooked stuff in rolls (shrimp tempura, eel) but I do like raw spicy tuna mix. I've also discovered I like salmon raw better than cooked. I also like albacore tataki. It's only lightly seared and served in this delicious onion sauce, but I admit the texture sometimes gets me. I do have to be in the right mood for sushi, and I will only eat nigiri (rolls) that have the rice on the outside and come in small rolls - girthy rolls make me gag. That's what she said.

I worked at a sushi place in college and I can tell you there is some weird ish out there.
