What a freaking wonderful 6 wks PP checkup!

Just had to vent a little here. I went in today for my 6 week PP check-up, and I took my LO with me. Everyone was so sweet and wanted to see the baby! Then all hell broke loose!

I got into the room, took my pants off, and holding the huge white paper towel thing around me, I got up on the table. Right then, LO started screaming. I went through several tactics trying to comfort her without taking her out of her car seat because I knew the doctor would be in soon and again, I had no pants on. I ended up mixing her a bottle and giving her just an ounce so she wouldn't spit up. Well, she puked, everywhere. Then she pooped! A lot! And we had to wait in that freaking "no pants" room for 40 minutes before the doctor finally came in. I was about ready to walk out bare ass and ask what was going on. When the doctor came in, I found out that my "seam" where I had been stitched, did not heal together completely! (By the way, I had an episiotomy that tore into a 4th degree tear.) So she informed me that she would have to CAUTERIZE the area that was still open. "What does cauterize mean?" I asked her. "Oh, I'm just going to have to burn the skin together." "Ok, what exactly do you use to burn my skin together?" "I'm going to use a Nitrate Stick." "Is this a fairly painful process?" "Most people do fairly well with this." She proceeds to wipe the nitrate stick on my skin and then tells me, "Its going to feel like fire for a few minutes." "YEP, I feel it!" Holy crap! Why couldn't she have told me it was going to feel like fire when I asked her if it was painful so I knew what to expect!

My appointment was at 1:15, and my vag is still BURNING! Oh my god!

Now I'm kicking myself because all of these horrible things that took place made me forget to ask her all of these questions that I had. I also forgot to get my release paper from her saying that I'm ok to go back to work, which I need to send to my HR dept. I didn't even ask her if I need to come back in a few weeks so she could check the area that she cauterized to make sure it was healed. I don't know when I can have sex or anything. Ugh! I plan on calling her office tomorrow, but I'm also wondering if anyone else had to have this done, and if they were smart enough to ask those questions.

Thanks for listening. Sorry it ended up being kinda long.

  • It hurt that bad? Both my kids belly buttons had to be done and neither of them flinched. Id be pissed about the 40 minute wait though! My OBs office staff watches baby for you if you're alone.

Belly button is a whole different story as the granulation tissue doesn't have nerves. OP, usually it's two weeks for sex but you should double check.

*shudder* I had ablation surgery and rember bruised feeling but not burning so I didn't realize it was painful.

  • Ouch. I've had cervical blood vessels that were bleeding cauterized a few times. That hurts like a *** for a while after.

  • Thanks ladies.

Yeah, it definitely hurt that bad. I'm a wimp though. :( Thank God for epidurals, or I don't think I would have survived labor/delivery. Its not burning anymore now.
