Favorite family-friendly restaurants??

It's Friday-Night-Date-Night, woo hooo!!!!!  (Meaning simply that this mama doesn't cook on Fridays so the 4 of us have a "date" Wink)

What are your favorite places that are a) somewhat family friendly, and b) have a decent menu for the kids (either a good kids menu or good things to share with them)?

Here are ours:

1.  Cheesecake Factory - our favorite place to take the kids, but it can get pricey.

2.  Red Robin - not the most healthy, for sure, but they do have grilled chicken/ turkey burgers, fruit, and milk for DS

3.  Chipotle/ Blue Coast Burrito/ etc. - when we're in a rush and on a tighter budget

4.  A local BBQ place - a good choice, but we get burnt out on it faster so it's not in the rotation as frequently.

We also live close to an O'Charleys, but I hate it with the kids.  The kids' menu is awful, IMHO, (at least for a LO as young as mine), and the only things DH and I seem to order there aren't great to share with him (DH likes friend chicken, I usually get a salad).

Help us get out of our rut, please!

Re: Favorite family-friendly restaurants??

  • We tend to go to some local restaurants in our town so these aren't necessarily chains but my daughter loves Chinese and I find many of the Chinese restaurants kid-friendly b/c they're usually sort of casual/low-key and the food comes FAST!  We have a healthy Chinese restaurant nearby (not fried food, great veggies and all cooked lightly) and she PPHs steamed dumplings and chicken & broccoli.

  • The 99, Chipotle, and Cheesecake Factory. I know Cheesecake Factory gets a bad rap, nutrition-wise, but we love it because it's always so loud in there that even if the kids are whining or shouting, no one really cares!

Have you tried the new Skinylicious menu? It's great! (Well, maybe not "great," but a definite improvement ;)) That, combined with the banana "appetizer" they bring out right away for the kids, and wre're fans :)

Yes, I did try it and really liked it! And the kids love the banana plate and the bread.

  • I can't help with variety because you an find us at El Palenque almost every Friday night. H loves rice and beans and mama loves margaritas!! :) How about CPK? We're thinking about going there tonight because H is spending the night at Granny's house.
  • We also sometimes do Carraba's. Henry loves sushi so we are really missing Shintomi...we rarely have time to drive down to peter's.
  • Not sure if they have them by you but we're big fans of Cheeseburger in Paradise and Claim Jumper. Also Panera/Cosi for quick sandwiches.

ETA: I second CPK too. I love their food, it was our go-to when we lived in the city (now in the burbs there are so many more options that are kid friendly that we haven't been for a while.

  • I take DD to Chili's fairly often when she and I have a date.  I love their kids menu and she will eat nearly anything.  I get a Presidente margarita, she colors and eats, and oh ya, I eat something too.  Very nice.

We also like a couple of local joints with patios and lots of kiddos.  Plenty of noise and plenty of other kids so we never feel like we have to keep a leash (figuratively) on DD.

  • I am going to also suggest CPK. I don't LOVE there food, I usually get there Chop Salad. But we go there alot cause it's semi healthy/fast service. Jake love there Mac and Cheese.e.

We also tend to go to a lot of local/ chain sports bar type places. Cause they are usually loud and have a good variety of food  for all of us, DH can watch a game of some kind!

  • We do a lot of local restaurants--basic american, pizza (usually a local chain with great outdoor patio, Mellow Mushroom is always good too), a deli, etc.  We've also taken them to Indian restaurants, Thai, Vietnamese, Mexican, etc.  Sometimes they just eat rice, but I try and bring along some other stuff for them to eat.  Heck, even if we are somewhere where they like something, they only eat it half of the time.  I often don't order off the kid's menu for them, but get something off the sides instead.  For example, one of our favorite Friday night places has a great mac and cheese, but they don't have it on the kids menu, it's listed as a side.

BTW, I have family in Nashville and they really like La Paz.  I've never been there, but I'm guessing they took their kids their when they were little.

We love La Paz!  It moved a while back and it's not as convenient, so we haven't been there in forever, but I was thinking of proposing it as an option for tonight :)
