Re: Poll: First Christmas Outfit

  • I voted "Who Cares", because it doesn't matter to me who bought the outfit. I chose what he wore. But who bought it doesn't matter to me.

::runs to see what outfit I put him in::

He wore a tie onsie. It was adorable. It was a gift from my photographer.

  • I'm a who cares too.  I wanted a dress for her-but we were team green. So when it turned out she was a she, the dress was gone. We got so many outfits as gifts that I was happy to just use those.

  • I voted me.

This reminds me of something similar. My MIL bought C his first Christmas ornament. I talked to DH about it and he agreed - WE want to be the one to buy him his first ornament. DH told his mom she could put it on her tree.

  • My mom always buys the kids christmas outfits. She gets stuff I like. I don't have to pay for it. It works for me. If you want to be the one to do it, you should be.

  • I voted "Who Cares" since, to me, it doesn't matter who forked over the dough for the outfit. What matters to me is that DH and I have the final say in what is worn.  They can buy all they want, but we reserve veto power.

  • Okay - so my MIL went out and bought DD a Santa dress and expects her to wear on our Christmas with them.  As cute as it is, it's not practical.  DD is a crawling fool and the dress is so long it will get in the way.

Erks me that she just went out, shows up with it yesterday (unannounced) to try it on her and says that she fully expect to see her in it several times. And even bought it big so she can wear it into January.

I guess I'll just suck it up and bring a backup that day, but it the woman just irritates me.  So much anymore that the little things that normally wouldn't bother me do now.

I'm waiting for this.  I already have DD's ornament.  One of my traditions is to get her an ornament each year, as my Mom did for me.  I fully expect her to show up with an ornament for her first Christmas.

  • He he!!  I knew this poll had something to do with a MIL buying an outfit!  How did I know?  Because this is totally something that would irk me too!

Put the dress on DD, take a few pictures and send to MIL.

I would put her in it to start Christmas and then as soon as she looks the tiniest bit frustrated switch her into what you want. Just take pics for MIL and I'm sure she'll be happy.  The showing up unannounced would piss me off more!

I agree with Amanda on this one. Keep the peace, put her in it for a pic, and then switch when she starts getting annoyed. I bought a few Christmas PJs for this reason (she can wear them after the holiday, I'm not that wasteful.)

As to the ornament thing - my mom bought DD hers, but I picked it out. So....I'm sentimental but also cheap?

Not at all!!  If my mom or even my MIL would let me pick it out I wouldn't mind.  The woman just shops, shops, shops without even a notice or a call to me about it.  She just shows up with it.  Irks me.

  • MIL will definatly buy a 'baby's first christmas' ornament, but I'm not into them, so I could care less. She also gave us an 'our first christmas' the year we were married, a d a 'first Christmas in the new house' one the same year since we'd bought one. I out them on the tree, but don't care for them.

as for the Christmas outfit- MIL already bought her a my first Christmas pj outfit. I'll buy her a rediculous dress for pictures and something more reasonable but adorable to wear for the day.

My mom did something like this, and it annoyed me, too. She bought DD her Christmas dress and it was totally NMS. She also made her this rather ugly Christmas overall set. So, I couldn't just put her in the dress and take a couple pictures, b/c she had the overalls as the "backup." Ugh.

I know she was just excited and thought she was doing me a favor, but why don't they realize that, as the moms, WE are excited and want to pick that stuff out?

This year, I've already bought her Christmas dress, and if my mom buys her one, too, that's just too bad!

  • I definitely want to be the one to pick out what DS wears for each holiday. I picked out and bought the outfit that he wore for BIL's wedding back in June when I was still 7 months pregnant. He is also going to wear that for Thanksgiving. Im planning on getting his Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years outfits on Black Friday when me and my mom go shopping. As long as I get to pick it out I dont care who pays for it but I am so picky I dont really like other people picking out "special day" outfits LOL.
