Trouble TTC

Back from Uro Follow Up - Great News!

We had our follow up at the uro this morning - 6 weeks ago, H had his first appointment and was told he had inflammation of the vas deferens.  They gave him an anti-inflammatory and antibiotics and then was told to get another SA and b/w a week after he was done with the meds.

We got the results today and his results were perfect!  28M count, 60% motility and 16% morph.  I was so happy I cried!  His testosterone was a little low (250; normal is 300), but the doc didn't want to mess with that since his counts were so good.

So now we just have to finish out this unmedicated cycle and then it's back to clomid + IUI!  Woot woot! Big Smile

  • That's great news!  It's so fabulous that the problem was solvable -- that's not often the case with MFI!

Severe MFI. Me: supposedly all clear but eggs showed vacuoles.

IVF #1 January 2012, ER Jan 14th: 34R, 27M, 23F. Day 3: 18 embies still strong. Day 5: zero "good," one "fair," the rest "poor." Transferred 3. None made it to blast or to freeze. Jan 28: BFN.

Lucky IVF #2: Transferred two beautiful day three embies on St. Patrick's Day. BFP on HPT 7dp3dt. Beta 1 (14dpER)=106; Beta 2 (16dpER)=140; Beta 3 (19dpER)=264! First u/s 4.17.

THIS!  Sometimes I wish there was a reason for DH to go on a round of really powerful antibiotics, just to clean out any "hidden" issues it might help.  Like our MFI would magically be fixed.  Glad the anti inflamatories helped your DH.

  • Thanks ladies!  I do feel very blessed that this was solvable...I have my FX for all of you.  MFI adds a whole new level of complexity to IF and is very hard to deal with emotionally - ((BIG HUGS)) to you all.

Holy Cow! I was so excited to see this post!  It gives me so much hope!

Our follow up at the uro is Nov 30th, 6 weeks after the first appt. The uro prescribed an antibiotic (Cipro) with instructions to take an anti-inflammatory with it, but starting a week before ovulation and ending after ovulation each cycle. (He prescribed 60 saying that would be enough for 6 months if DH took about 10/month.) The uro never said anything about inflammation of the vas deferens, just that he thought it was inflammation because there were no indicators of a prostate infection.  He had tons of wbc's in his first SA too.  He did not have any blood work done.

I was just wondering what YH's SA numbers were before?  Did he have wbc's?

I really hope we're in the same situation... I thought for sure that nothing would work and we'd be stuck with IVF w/ ICSI.

. He did not have any white blood cells; the uro found the inflammation upon physical examination. It was just a one time medication for us....his numbers were around 7M and 16% motility before. Good luck - hope you get success with your treatment!

So interesting!  Wow, that's incredible improvement!! Congratulations!!

Thanks, I hope it works for us too.  It doesn't make sense to me to take the medication for 10 days each month to me... it makes more sense to do it once and fix the problem, but I'm no urologist.
