White Noise

A ? was posted on the 0-3 month page, but no one has answered it yet.  I decided I would ask over here.

Do or did y'all use white noise when your infants napped during the day?  I want there to be a distinction between day and night (we used white noise at night) so I am wondering if using it during the day will mess them up.

Thoughts?

Re: White Noise

  • We were worried about that as well initially. We would use white noise overnight but used nothing during the day. For the first 6 weeks, they napped in a pack n play in the living room. Once we moved them to their nursery for naps, we started using the white noise. Now, they can't sleep without it!

Do you have a bedtime routine? We started one around 6 weeks and found that that helped them differentiate between day and night. Also, overnight we wouldn't pick them up and rock them. When they needed to eat, we'd feed, burp and change them in dim light, but wouldn't talk or cuddle them. It was eat and back to bed! They adjusted quickly and have been great sleepers ever since.

  • We use it for naps and bedtime (if we remember to turn it on).  We haven't had any issues so far.  They nap in their cribs and sleep most of the night in their cribs (in our room).

They can sleep with or without it, but they seem to sttn more often with it.  I think little noises wake them easier if the machine is not on.

  • I have always used a floor fan pointed away from the babies when they sleep.  I really felt like I needed to have the noise with a toddler in the house that didn't nap any longer.
