Labor starting & stopping- what should I do?

I've been having periods of crampiness (along with other signs) since Sunday afternoon. Tuesday at my weekly appointment I was dilated to 2 and soft. No blood and no MP in sight. I've been walking and bouncing on my ball and resting in between. This is all new to me, as DS1 came the same day I was dilated to 1 and labor started fast and furious without stopping until he was here.

So, I'm wondering if I should continue to try to get things to progress or just try to relax and let it be. I'll take any advice...

tia!

  • Walking and bouncing is what I'd do if I wanted to get things moving, but if you really have 19 days to go I'd just sit and relax. :)

  • I'd sit and relax.  You've still go awhile to go.  Unless you're having consistent contractions I'd take advantage of getting a nap now while you still can!

  • Another vote for relaxing, but of course if you're in the early stages of labor that could make things move along quicker too :-) Good luck!

  • Sit and relax.  Second time moms notice BH much more intensely often times.  When sitting, don't cross your legs and don't slouch backward.  Roll your hips on the ball instead of bouncing.  Sit on it to use the computer or watch tv, so your hips  tip your pelvis forward (think of the pelvis as a pitcher of water that you want to spill forward).   Sometimes those early Cx are just trying to get the baby into position, so you can help that with your own body position.
  • Thanks guys! I'm feeling a little impatient now that I know things are actually starting to happen. DS1 came at 38 weeks and I've been anticipating an early arrival of this one too. I'm definitely taking advantage of nap time and trying to remind myself to enjoy these last few days with one.

Thank you for the ball advice, T. I've been mostly rolling/rocking on it, but wondering if I was doing it right since things tend to calm down after I've been on it a while.

I won't mind at all if this guy stays in at least until after our anniversary dinner at Frank Fats on the 22nd. :-)
