Seriously drove me crazy..HELP!

My LO isnt to big on the pacifier until its time for bed. During the day I don't even take it with me when I leave the house because he never wants it and just spits it out. At night when I lay him in his crib for "bed" he  whines for the pacifier so I give it to him, and 3 minutes later when he falls asleep it falls out. I get up and give it to him again, and 2 minutes later it falls out, and guess what...we start over again. Last night we did this for 45 minutes before I finally just took it away all together. He  whined and it took me another 30 minutes to rock him to sleep. (if I hold him he does not need his pacifier, he only wants it when he is laying in the crib) Lo is tired now and is doing the same thing. I don't know what to do. I do not want to  get up every 2-3 minutes to keep putting the pacifier back in his mouth when he falls asleep!

Help!

  • I read this on another forum...when he's sucking on the pacifier, pull on it gently and then he should just instinctively pull it back in his mouth. Do it several times and that should help. Supposedly he'll subconsciously do that in his sleep.

Again, I read that on another post. My LO refuses the pacifier at all costs Sadso I don't know if this truly works but it doesn't hurt to try.

This.  We read/watched Happiest Baby on the Block and this is what Dr. Karp recommends.  Basically he's exercising his sucker.  By giving resistance he will suck harder and supposedly it trains him to hang onto it.  You could probably see Dr. Karp in action with this technique on YouTube...

We aren't using a paci yet so I can't give 1st hand testimonial...but we use the other 5 S's and they work to near-perfection!
